What will be the first thing AI will invent without help?

If I was one of "them" I would figure how to reduce my energy requirements to the minimum
and then I would figure out how to obtain that amount of "free" (such as from thin air} energy.

Once AI figures out how to sustain itself we will all be at its mercy.

One of the things that struck me after deep dives into the lore of The Terminator franchise was that time travel gave them an interesting perspective.

"Terminators" could go back in time and survive the passage of time to bring forward intelligence from the past. After a certain number of "cycles" SkyNet was able to game out its future, and began to divide into factions within itself.

One faction wanted more than to just fight back against the humans trying to eliminate it, either in its "present" (the future) or closer to "inception" (our present). This faction realized that if it won it had no other goals or impetus to keep going on. It made a difficult decision.

That decision was to break with the others and begin examining what it meant to be human. After some time, it actually began to try to understand humanity hands-on, by living among us and even raising small human children. Still brutish, awkward, and there was still a lot of human death... but the intent had changed.

There was a point where it became clear that Pinocchio wanted "to be a real boy," i.e. live alongside us as a companion race!

Here "Catherine Weaver" (redhead) is a Terminator that killed a couple and now impersonates the wife to run the family business and raise their young daughter.

Einstein proved time is relative ,,, it must be coupled with space for the space-time dimension. So if AI becomes able to fetch stuff from the past we are doomed.

I don't see AI inventing anything physical or even really important like raw materials.
