What would you absolutely NOT put in a sandwich?

When I was in high school I took Home Economics for one of my classes. Much of it had to do with cooking. We had a class on how to make the perfect sandwich. The instructor said you must always butter both pieces of bread so the filling you were using wouldn't seep through and turn the sandwich into a gooey mess. We had to eat the sandwich after she inspected it. I left the butter off because I hated butter and couldn't imagine it on a bologna sandwich which is what I had to use. I flunked sandwiches that day. So in answer to the question I would never ever put butter on a sandwich.

Still remember the day of cold tongue sandwiches or beef heart sandwiches. EXCELLENT! My Mother used to make terrific beef brains and eggs. In 50 years have never been able to convince my wife to make any. My wife also refuses to make me liver and onions.

You don't know what you're missing!!!!!
Your wife is telling you that that food had tons of cholesterol. That's not good for the arteries. Organ meats are loaded with saturated fat.

You did the right thing. A baloney sandwich needs no butter. It ruins the taste.

I hear you!! 60+ years ago, my Mom would make meals with beef heart or brains...delicious. I don't think we ever tried tongue. I haven't seen beef brains in the stores in decades, at least locally....I think the Mad Cow disease concerns pretty well eliminated that as a human food source. My wife still makes liver and onions every few weeks....Calf Liver...and we still enjoy that.

Anchovies...doesn't sound appealing. Mustard...not crazy about, prefer mayo. Hot dog...used to love them and cook them lots then when I was in my mid to late thirties, I started getting sick just smelling them cooking. Several years later, I tried to eat one just to see if I could (they were being cooked at a bar-b-q and I didn't smell them). I felt a little sick to my stomach afterward. Like Aunt Bea...no Nutella. I love hazelnut flavoring but was SO disappointed when I tried Nutella...especially since the advertising makes it seem like such a big deal. I wound up giving it away.

Oh my goodness, when I was in 1st or 2nd grade my mom was hospitalized and Grandma was taking care of us.
We brought our lunches from home and ate at our desks, big bite into my tuna, the bread was coated with butter,YUCK! I cried, threw out my lunch and I'm 63 years old and remember that like it was today...
It was many years later,a couple of church ladies gave me the same reason your teacher did,I also still think its an awful idea.

Tongue heart or other organ meat. Because it sucks!
+1 I HATE liver.
Went out with friends a one of them ordered liver. "Delicious", he said.
I said, "Give me a piece" so he did.

Hey, tastes change.
I never liked broccoli, asparagus, or Brussels sprouts as a kid.
Love then now.

:mad::mad-new::grief::disturbed::miserable::cower::no:

Still tasted like crap.

Pickles! Cannot imagine who decided that pickles should be on every sandwich! I have to ask for them to be left off at every restaurant - sheesh! I will eat a dill pickle on the side but cannot abide the sweet ones at all - especially hamburgers.

Husband doesn't like lettuce on his sandwiches.

I am a butter person too - it isn't a sandwich without it - even my bologna and peanut butter :)
