What Would You Do To Protect Your Property?

A hypothetical situation----------You are in your Grocery Store which you own. There are rioting mobs of people in the street outside your business. A group of 8 or 9 suddenly breaks the glass door and windows and enters your store. They proceed to smash glass counters and take liquor, beer and foodstuffs. You fear for your own personal safety and the safety of your employees. Do you call 911? If you have access to a gun would you use it even if the mob is unarmed? If you had a club would you use it? Would it make any difference if you were at home with your family and a mob tried to break in?

Depends on the situation, if there was time to call 911 have the long conversation and wait for the cops to come, I would do that first. If time was an issue, I would not hesitate at all to use a gun to protect myself whether I was at home or anywhere on my property. If I didn't have a gun, I guess I would make use of whatever was available.

I would run out the back door of the store, get as far away as I could, then call 911, and maybe contemplate getting out of the business.

Since I don't have a family living with me, I'd do the same at home, and think about moving.

Whether at home or at work I would rely upon my training in what could be called "progressive resistance" - you defend yourself as much as is legally and practically possible, but always with an eye to survival.

It's wise to remember that "when danger is seconds away, the police are minutes away". If it was a store, and looters were breaking in, I would got out the back door, and hope the insurance covers the damage. However, if it were my house, I would Aim for the Torso.

With owning a business, I would call the police if safe enough to do that, and get myself and employees out of the store with our own belongings.all stores have CCTV, so rioters can be identified later.Insurance will cover losses.
If at home, being in the UK we don't have guns anyway, but would try and assess the situation as to what action would be.All situations are different after all.

If it was a store, I would escape as quickly as possible.

If it was my home, I would use lethal force. If they are breaking in, they surely don't have my best interests in heart.

Sometimes the line between a property and personal crime becomes paper-thin. What starts off as a simple burglary or act of civil disobedience ends up as a multiple homicide.

Again, no two situations are going to be exactly the same, so you cannot predict what your actions will be until you're actually involved in that scenario.

I think a burglar would be very disappointed if he broke into my place as I have no real valuables to speak of, even my technology is dated. Nevertheless I have a deadbolt on my apartment door and always keep it locked. Our building has cameras and fob locked entrance doors, so it's relatively safe. What would I do to protect my property? Nothing - let them have what they want. We don't do guns here, if the question is whether shooting a thief is warranted, I would say a big NO.

I agree Phil, you're absolutely right about that! If someone breaks into my home, I'm not going to sit back and just hope he steals my stereo and goes on his merry way. If he has invaded my home, he has caused me to have serious concern for myself, my family and my property...shooting to kill would be my first action for survival. If he's not openly pointing a gun at me, that doesn't mean he doesn't have one stashed on his person.

Call 911, let the police handle it. You cannot use deadly force to protect property.

If you are in the US it depends on where you are living. A number of states allow you to use a gun for defense in your house only. Other states will allow you to use your gun in defense anywhere on your property. And surely some states will not allow you to shoot anybody at any time anywhere.

What about the South African Oskar Pistorius who shot and killed his girlfriend thru the bathroom door. His defense claimed that he did it because he was terrified his house had been broken into.
