I was the area coordinator of BC Special Olympics, We had a floor hockey team and one young man was tiny and fearful yet loved to play, he would cover his eyes if anyone got too close. I went to a night game and promised pizza afterwards . Jokingly I told him if he saw the puck coming his way and hid his face I would not let have the after the game pizza. He had never had the puck before but somehow the puck came to him, everyone screamed Run Rob Run, he went the wrong way but everyone shouted the other way and he took off, the whole place was yelling him on even the other teams families, that kid went like the wind, fell down twice, got up ,kept the puck and got back to it. It seemed an army was behind him chasing him, but Rob kept going, when he drove that puck into the net the whole place went wild, everyone was cheering, the other side were hugging him, they picked him up and ran round with him, he was crying and laughing at the same time. I am crying as I type this.
When they put him down he ran to where I was and asked if he could have his pizza, my answer, yes sweetie, you can have as much as you can eat.
Yep, a great memory, thank you for the topic.
