What's for dinner ( or lunch )

Tonight I had a steak bake and baked beans.....

Today dinner menu

Rump roast, poke some holes and push garlic and black pepper corns in. Sear on a cast frypan.

All added into a crock pot on slow cook.

Carrots, purple yams, onions, Portuguese sausage, sprinkle with Italian Seasoning.

Brussel Sprouts and Edamame on the side.

I'm in the process of making Italian-American style meatballs. 2lbs w turkey meat for the wife and 5lbs w beef and pork. Much of it will end up in the freezer, but "we'll be eatin' high on the spagit' tonight" - Jed Clampet.

The store had ground beef for $2/lb, instead of the regular $8/lb, plus the most infuriating 6% state sales tax on food.🤬

Yes we have shortage of beef so prices are very high. Herds got smaller the past few years due to cheap prices and there is a screw worm pest in MX that is probably limiting imports.

And we live in a remote place w little competition and many people that live here or visit don't think twice about what they spend on food or anything else - which has led to severe price gouging.

Don't get me started on onions and potatoes which are grown in stunning quantity (and quality) w/in 200 miles of here.

haha, well that was someone else's fish & chips, but mine (tho, not quite as pretty) was delicious!! I need to work on my tarter sauce. I got some in a bottle and it was not good. I've made it before, but for some reason - I don't think I'm good at it. :)

I've never made tartar sauce and I'm funny about my tartar sauce. My favorite tartar sauce is at the Big Boy restaurants. Do they still have them out west? There are very few left period, I think. I've ordered their tartar sauce online, but to me it doesn't taste the same as they used to serve in the restaurant. I wish they still had a restaurant near where I live. They used to have the best fish sandwiches years ago. Like everything else, nothing tastes the same as it did in years gone by.

We have one, and usually go on Sunday! I didn't know they sold tarter sauce. I will ask. I know they sell their delicious blue cheese dressing. We really like their food, and the shakes are to die for!!! ;-)

Since there is no Big Boy nearby, my husband used to order their tartar sauce through Amazon. It's called Frisches Big Boy Tartar sauce. The Big Boys out here are called Frisches. I didn't think the online tartar sauce tasted the same as in the restaurant but my husband liked it. Usually when I'm near a Frisches, I will pick me up their tartar sauce .
