What's It Like to Be Dead?

I've done a lot of this, that, and the other in my life, we all have. But I've been wondering what it's like to be dead. Any comments?

I thought for a long time that it was like nothing, because we cease to exist both physically and mentally. I still feel that way, when your life ends, that's the end of it...period. I am open-minded though, to the possible existence of the soul living on, and perhaps 'ghosts' hanging around and visiting us. I've lost some family members, and always welcomed any type of communication from them, but so far I have not experienced anything supernatural in that manner.

I not only believe that we continue with life in a different way... but that our brains and mind are not our true 'consciousness' ... Plus I believe in reincarnation...there is a lot of 'proof' out there. I have had many mind-blowing (and mind expanding!) experiences with reincarnation plus know of others who have, too.

How interesting, Bettyann. I wish it were possible you could tell me about reincaranation and you experiences.

I'm not looking for anything after death. I'm grateful for the gift of life in the flesh on this planet and I am content.

I do realise that for some people life has been a far harder experience than mine due to nothing that they have done to deserve it. I understand their hope for something better yet to come. Life without hope is unthinkable.

So, as an exercise, I imagine possibilities from time to time. My favourite one is that I become like the alien dwellers of the wormhole in Deep Space Nine - non corporeal and nonlinear. In other words, released from the world of matter and time. Able to inhabit any place and time instantaneously, possibly simultaneously, but unable to interact with it. That would be a whole new level of existence to explore.

But it is only a mind game. But a fascinating one.

I am hopeful that when I die I cease to be. The idea of any sort of afterlife doesn't give me any pleasure.

I believe that when I die, it will be like walking from the dining room into the living room. As a Christian, I believe that to be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord, and I look forward to it!! :)

Whatever ever turns you on of course, but that would be my idea of hell!

A man had four sons. Three were priests and one was a doctor.

One morning the doctor said to his father, "I had a strange dream last night, I dreamt I died and went to hell"
"What was it like?" asked his father.
"Just like walking from the dining room into the living room. You couldn't get near the fire for bloody priests!"

Dead? Im more worried about "coming back" and I sure as heck dont want to come back here and I dont want to go to that "otherside" either.

But I wouldnt mind those 40 virgins.

Bettyann, I've heard of people being hypnotized and doing a past-life regression, did you ever do anything like that? I'm also interested to hear of your experiences.

re original post...bit like being married?

Hopefully being dead is more relaxing. ;)

Many spiritual beliefs contain information on some sort of afterlife, and I've often wondered if it was truly just the recitation of the party line, actual experience, or whether these beliefs were instilled in the congregations only to make their mortal lives more tolerable ...

It's a very grave matter, if you can dig it. A lot of stiff competition, but very spirited.
"Digger" O'Dell, was "Your friendly undertaker" on the radio. At the end of the program he would say: "I guess I'll be shoveling along"! :)

Okay, thanks for that - I was never a Life of Riley listener, that explains why I never heard of him. From the name I thought he was some Australian radio actor ... :p

"G'day - just popped in for a cold one!"
