What's on your travel bucket list

Check this out. I have flown around the world in both directions. East to West and West to East. I have also been to the North Pole and the South Pole. I was once asked since I have been to so many places where would I prefer to live. I told him, There’s no place like home, but
I found the Netherlands to be most enjoyable. I also enjoyed Australia, but not the big cities. I took a tour of the Outback and knew that’s not a place where I would want to spend any length of time.

I've never visited Spain. Younger daughter and OH go to Barcelona quite often, mostly for music festivals, and they say Mrs.L and I should go there for a holiday. On the other hand, Spanish people I have spoken to say I should visit the Basque country if I want to see the 'real' Spain.

We won't be going anywhere 'exotic' for a while as we never holiday in the high - expensive - season.

I need one big lottery win to travel one more time to see some elderly cousins in UK - gotta get there quick they'r older than I and then Canada to see my sis and family one more time or stay with them if I can persuade the govt to keep me? but will I miss Oz ?? - probably

I would like to go to Alaska and then go into the Yukon. I don’t know if there is any panning going on in the Yukon, but I sure would like to give it a try just for the experience. I don’t need the gold or money it’s worth, but would like to pan and maybe find an ounce or so. I would imagine with all the thousands of people who have panned the river, it’s probably been pretty well worked out.

I would definitely like to see Skagway and Dawson City, along with the Yukon River.

I just returned from Russia for the umpteenth time. A lot of unrest between the people over there. They aren't happy with Putin, but of course, they cannot protest his handling of anything. The war with Ukraine should have been over a long time ago, but with countries like the U.S. who keeps throwing money into their war chest is not helping, but hurting. This is a war that needs to end for everyone's benefit.

Winning is not an option for Russia, but a must. Putin still has an unbelievable amount of weapons at his disposal. He's happy to just sit back and ruin a country's infrastructure and kill the citizens. When will Ukraine learn they can't and won't win this war?

You're right that this war needs to end, but you cannot let Russia 'win' or somewhere else will be next.

I agree. It’s no secret that Russia could end this war in minutes using low grade nukes, but that would be very chancy as other countries may follow suit if they would get involved in a conflict with another country.

I know you said you worked many years for the government, but at what capacity, I don’t know and it’s none of my business. However, please tell me what Russia’s alternative is to ending this war besides sending in more troops and war machines. I know Russia hadn’t used a lot of air power just yet, so would that be an option? Or, would they bring in more heavier artillery?

My travel partner has never been to France and really wants to go so we have a tour booked for April 2025. I never thought I’d get sick of going to Europe but it will be my 7th trip and I’m tired of the long flights and have seen everything there that I want to.

I’m very glad that I have traveled as much as I have. Although on another retirement forum people travel overseas for months every year. I don’t like to be gone for longer than 2 weeks.

Woohoo, we're just back from checking off two items, transatlantic and Mediterranean cruises!

Others on the list:

Panama Canal (scheduled but cancelled during Covid)
British Isles
River cruise

Me? I'm content to wander this great country. Wife would like to go to Sicily and visit relatives from her "bent nose" side of her family.
Of course that 'Great' country is pretty big and there must be a great deal of diversity for you to wander through. Now, nowhere in Great Britain is more than 70 miles from the sea, it is overpopulated and in a pretty poor state. That's not to say that it doesn't have areas of great natural beauty, but they , like other places in other countries, are often victims of their own popularity.

Lake Tahoe. I've never been there or Yosemite. I won't go to Yosemite though after what I have heard about the crowds. But I must see Lake Tahoe someday.

So many places I'll never see. I have more I want to, but I will never go.

PM me.

You definitely need to see both since they are so close. I have been to Yosemite 4 times and it’s beautiful. I go to Tahoe frequently because it’s so close.

I don't have a bucket list but I have friends who are itching to travel, so there will be no shortage of people to travel with. I just can't do it now. But I feel the urge to travel. At some point I will probably travel a great deal and spend much time overseas. That is totally unlike me but life is funny and perhaps some of us throw caution to the wind as we get older.

If I make it to FLA to stay with my BFF in Fort Lauderdale/Pompano someplace next summer, it will be a miracle. I will be getting my passport soon to allow me the freedom, but I have my doubts.

Would love to go to Glastonbury again, a very special place for me. Oxford, too.

Noticed I didn't mention new places, just revisiting what I loved.

Really no desire to travel just for the sake of seeing new places or even old places. I will be moving this summer, probably back to Ohio, and once that's done, my 'travel bucket list' will be to the grocery store and the doctor's office.

May I ask why you are moving back?

it's complicated. My lovely SO now needs more and more daily assistance, and my own health makes that more difficult every day. So i'm taking her back to Ohio to live with her son. I'm likely going to enter a 'senior facility' to make my own life a little easier. And finally, both my children and their mother are buried in Central Ohio and, though I can't explain it, I feel the need to be close to them. (Although some days I feel like I need to make a one way trip back to the Big island of Hawaii. I dunno.)

Sorry to be a downer in an otherwise upbeat thread.
