What's so bad about smugness?

Most of have probably been faced with the smugness of others, either in real life or online. What are your thoughts about it?

This article, What's so bad about smugness?, discusses what it is and why people might find it objectionable. It's a short yet
interesting (in my opinion) read. I hope you'll enjoy it as well and choose to share your thoughts on the subject.

Much of the essay seems driven by the concept of "unbearable" smugness. Or is it that smugness unbearable in itself? I'm not sure. My take is that if smugness is unbearable, that is the problem for the smuggee, not for the smugger. People are a lot of things. Smug is just another mostly negative personality trait, some being far worse, but in all cases, it's up to everyone whether or not to give a smugger the time of day. We can choose whether we want to participate in life with them or not.

Well, of course, I would never be smug, that's one of the countless things I pride myself on, and I'm sure the numerous people who admire & adore me would echo my sentiments.

Smugness is a characteristic of subordinate individuals, the kind who are elated if they think that I may have glanced in their direction.

So that's a no from Moi.
