When cooking, do you make extra to freeze?

When I make things like soup, or chili , I always make a big batch, and freeze single portions. It is always nice to have home made food in the freezer. Especially being single. Usually do them in the slow cooker.
I ask this question based on a conversation I had with a single, senior friend (in her 60s like me). She was surprised I froze meals. She found it "too much like work" and " Not worth the effort". I find it no effort at all, especially since I am cooking anyway. This is the same person who always complains she never has anything good to eat in her house,
I mean, I buy convenience stuff too, but that is not as good for us, of course. I try to keep a good balance in the freezer.
I just used the last of my chicken soup, but have several containers of chili.

It's like money in the bank!

The other day when I made chicken chili I fed one portion to the freezer and kept out two for me.

Sometimes I thaw and eat the things I freeze as a meal and sometimes I add them to a pot of soup. A cup of chili, pasta sauce, or beans added to a pot of soup gives it a depth of flavor that makes it seem like it simmered all day.

Part of the reward for me as a homemaker, is making bigger batches of whatever it is that I'm making, just so that I can freeze a few single or double portions after.

Having a variety of frozen goods on hand makes for uncomplicated and easy days, where when I've been outside gardening all day long, I can come into the house, get cleaned up, and be sitting down to a tasty meal in the time it takes to warm it up.

There's no life like it. :)

Soup is made in a large pot and then divided up and frozen for several lunches. DH gets soup every day from fall until late spring. If I’m making big meals, part will be frozen for later. If nothing else, it‘ll be used for a second meal two days later. The one thing I don't like is frozen chicken or turkey.
