OK, I've been meaning to write this stuff down, so here goes:
1. The first time time did a number on me was when I was in college. There was a guy, whom I thought was an urban legend. I'll call him "Nick," here. As the story went, his deal was to come up to you, introduce himself, and then ask to try on your coat. If you cared to look down, it was obvious he was "very happy" to be doing that. So, one day I was crossing the main street, in my college town. Suddenly, I was aware of someone walking with me, on my right. I looked over. "Hi, I'm Nick. Nice coat, can I try it on?" (I had on an old Eisenhower jacket my old gf had given me. It had been her dad's.) I immediately told him "No!" I then looked away for a split second. When I looked back, he had vanished into thin air. The whole encounter took, maybe, three seconds, while we crossed the street. Yet, the guy had vanished. He was nowhere to be seen, and I looked around for a few seconds. Very strange.
2. Across from my tattoo shop there was a drug store. A transgender guy was the cashier. One day, as I tattooed, he came into the shop. Prior to that, we had had some short, shallow, conversations, at his register, as I checked out. No big deal. As he watched me tattoo, I got some very odd vibes from this girl guy. I needed, at some point, to go into the back room to get some supplies. He followed me. As I unlocked the door, his hand shot out for my crotch. I had been expecting it, so I caught him in mid-strike. "No, man!," I said. "Why not?" "Because I don't go that way!" "Fine. I'm going home to my boyfriend and we're going to have some great fun, and you can't be there!" As I turned to tell him to be careful, he had vanished! The supply room was about seventy-five feet from our front door. Unless he was The Flash, in disguise, there was no way he could have covered that distance in a millisecond, yet, he had! Again, very strange.
I guess the whole time dilation thing has to do with an adrenaline rush, as we prepare for fight or flight. Still, the two incidents, above, seem very weird to me when I play them back over, in my mind.
So, what odd time things have happened to you? I'm genuinely curious.
