When to wear a wig regularly after more loss of hair due to stress.

The last 6 months of the past year I had family losses and a divorce. I got my hair cut and she asked if I had a lot of stress because a small balding spot on my head was biggeer and bald. I had previously attributed it to medication, but this was extreme for me. This made me buy a wig and now I am looking into getting the cap and band that go under it to wear it more comfortably, but I don't know if I should wear it all the time. I mean, if my hair is thining anyway and noticeably, it's going to be gone anyway, right?

No, it won't necessarily be gone, (((fanci))). But yes, get the cap and band. I assumed you had it already. Be comfortable. That should be your goal, be comfortable. Wear it when you want to, when you feel best wearing it, whether that means part of the day or all day. Feel good about yourself.

Yes, I had already been thinking on this issue. Just with uncertainty. Thank you for the encouraging words. You are right and thank you again. No more himhawing around.

Stress and alopecia is a thing. Sometimes you get past it and regrow, sometimes not. Reducing the stress probably helps.

Do with it what you are comfortable with. If a wig works great, hats other times fine. Just don't stress over it. Explore your options.

Well said, I would add that a chat with your doctor next time you are there might help. Sometimes the manifestation of stress and assuming that the alopecia is such a manifestation, it becomes yet more stressfull.
How much a hairpiece cost I have no idea but a stylish hat does not have to be expensive.

I am reducing my stress by destressing exercises that I learned while going to therapy. Thank you for the wise suggestions. Yes, stress happens. Now, I counteract it by taking a break, reflecting and breathing and releasing it to whatever. I refuse to keep stress. Thank you so much.

Love the hat! You make that option look gorgeous!!!

If the wig makes you feel better then wear it but I think wearing it ALL the time could cause more hair loss.

Some hair loss is due to fungus and bacteria so fresh air is a must to keep it in check. Many people benefit from using the right products and letting AIR get to their scalp.

Have you tried shampoos especially designed for hair loss?

I'm really sorry. My hair isn't what it once was but I still have a decent amount.

There was a woman who consulted at a former job who had alopecia since young. She was beautiful and was very open that she wore wigs. I'm assuming modern ones can be comfortable? I don't know.

How about a wide hair band when you don't want to wear a wig. It's a nice look and your hair will still show and will just look like fashion or you want your hair away from your face.

Thank you. I have found one that I really love and am going to wear this one for sure. Yes, I will be taking it off and wearing it sparingly. No

WOW! That wig looks fantastic on you. What a terrific change. Ok I can see the appeal. I guess wigs have come a long way from what they used to be.

Did your doctor take a scalp swab or any type of test to rule out fungus or bacterial infection?

Is he/she sending you to a dermatologist?

Either way, you look amazing. It’s a VERY tasteful wig!

If I had the hair type, I’d love that style haircut.

You might want to check your ferritin level. It should be 70ng/ml for hair growth.

A lot of hair loss from stress shows up 3 months after the event, like a surgery. Then it takes some time to resolve.

Yes, wigs have come a long way. I talked with the lady in the store before I bought it ($100). I had saved for it. No, I just decided it was time to get one that I really liked. Thank you again for all the compliments, it makes me feel even better!

Yes, modern ones are very comfortable with adjustments inside the band. Mine is not itchy or discomfort at all.

There are ladies at my church that choose to wear hats. They have many different hats and look great on them. I, however, am not a hat person.

You did good. $100 is a great price considering you’ll have the look forever. That wig really suites you, plus it takes years off you. Not that you looked old, cause you didn’t. Now you just look younger. Ok I’m considering getting a wig. Lol
$100 isn’t too bad. šŸ‘

Well done you, your avatar is fabulous. Hats went out of general use as we all got better off. Back when there was no central heating, even in public buildings, keeping the extremities warm, as in hats, socks and gloves, was key to staying warm.

Now we have warm cars, homes, shops and just about everywhere, you don't see hats so much. They are more of a fashion item and you are right, if you are not comfortable wearing one then you will never be a hat person.

My own hat wearing was born out of the liking for The Fedora hat, but like you, I cover my head to hide a scalp condition. In my case it's
psoriasis that I hide away. Psoriasis is a chronic (long-lasting) condition in which the immune system becomes overactive, causing skin cells to multiply too quickly. Patches of skin become scaly and inflamed, most often on the scalp. At it's worse, it can look like a serious case of dandruff.

Years ago, a rather astute doctor carefully asked me some personal questions. He coaxed out of me how I dealt with my mother's premature death, she was just 35. It was probably the cause of my skin condition. He explained what psychosomatic meant and guessed that the stress caused the affliction. But life is what it is and my Fedora Hats cover a stressful past.

With impeccable timing my new hat arrived this morning.

It's a rich, dark green to compliment both my blazers and floral shirts.

Can we see the full size photo of that lovely new wig of your's?

You look fantastic! I am glad you feel better about it. I was thinking before I clicked on your thread that if/when I see a women who is bald ( as a fashion ), I think it looks good. Probably many people don't. But I do, and think that if the issue becomes complicated that going to a bald style is a choice...now not everybody's for sure...but for some. :)

Hair loss can also be related to all kinds of deficiencies in your blood work. Be sure to get checked for thyroid function and anemia.

Many older people find vitamins hard to digest. They can cause stomach upset. Switch to chewable vitamins - not kids' Flintstones, but legit, adult chewable vitamins they sell at all the drug stores now.

Vitamins are also covered under your Medicare Advantage OTC Benefit, if you have that. I was cheering when I discovered they were paid for by my Medicare Advantage plan. They should be! Poor people don't always eat right and need vitamins. Sometimes various illnesses cause elders to lose their appetite, but they still need to take their vitamins.
