When was the last time that you did something for the first time?

I like to try new and different things. I'm not sure if I have a short attention span or if maybe I just have a natural curiosity about the people, places and things around me that make me inquisitive. But I do know that it feels good to try new things, visit new places and to get to know new faces.

I recently sold most everything I own so that I could try pursuing my dream of having a more adventurous life. I'm staying, for now, in Cuenca Ecuador. It's not my first time to visit here, I spent last winter here actually. But it is my first time to leave the comfort of having a home and car that I owned, that I could return to, should my adventure not go as well as I'd hoped. In a sense, I burned the bridge that led to my hometown, where I was born and had lived most years of my life. So, I guess that although I could and can afford shelter, I technically decided to become homeless, recently, for the first time in my life. It's not going so badly, truth be told, and I'm actually enjoying it. But I wonder about others experiences.

All the time, I mean every week I usually go visit somewhere new, or actually start a new project... it's a big passion of mine to always find something new to do no matter how small..

Today my very small new thing will be to try out a weighted blanket for the first time on my bed...

A few months ago, after avoiding the self-checkout like the plague, I decided to dive in and give it a try. I had a big order that I had to divide in two as well. I found the experience uplifting and now use self-checkout all the time in every store. Not as spectacular as Chris P. The only thing that I can think of, being a first time, is a tooth extraction. Fifty odd years ago, three things happened that probably gave my teeth the longevity that they have had. I quit smoking, I also quit sugar in hot drinks and fluoride had been added to our drinking water, all of which gave me a strong healthy set of teeth almost for life. Almost? I cracked a tooth, split it, gnawing on a bone. The dentist couldn't save it, so, at 75 years old, I had my first ever tooth extraction. Did it hurt, or what?

About 2 yrs ago we went on a trip with friends to the Pocono's. There was a lot of snow. Some of my friends rented snowmobiles and so did I, even though I don't know how to drive. Take a guess who was the first one arriving at the destination!

Chris, I am amazed at your courage to do what you did! I have "thought" of doing something similar but I didn't want to leave family and friends behind. Not that I was afraid of what I would find, but because I don't want to burn bridges that I spent all my life building. To visit a place for a few months is one thing, but to leave everything and everyone behind is another. Are you enjoying yourself? Do you have a support system? How did you end up being homeless?

It's not that I did something new, something new was done TO me: I became a grandma and I love this kid so much it's ridiculous. He changed my life just by being born.

The new thing I did the other day is buy a Sandisk memory card that was 64 Gb for my Canon camera so I can take more pictures in it. The camera came with a 4 Gb Sandisk that kept filling up quickly and I couldn't take the photos I wanted to. So I'm happy with the change. I also bought an external hard drive to back up my files. The other new thing was coming on to SeniorForums and becoming a member. Glad I did. So many different people and ideas coming at me all at once. Love it!

Oh don't be a woose... it only aches for a couple of days...

What does hurt is getting 4 Impacted Wisdom teeth taken out at the same time... now that bleedy hurt...lol

I thought and thought and the only thing I could come up with is a week ago I tried the "impossible burger" at Burger King for the first time. It was pretty good once I got past the flame broiled taste which seemed to be mostly around the edges.

Can't recall exactly but i'm always looking for new more efficient ways to do things that are essentially necessary maintenance work (on house,my body or my mind, habits), to free up time for reading, chatting online, trying new recipes, walking around my property. i frequently listen to music by people i've just heard of, younger generation stuff. Love Pink's 'Raise a Glass' -- this would have been an anthem for High School me and my friends if it had existed back then. My daughter loved the show 'Glee' and i never got into it---but i spent an afternoon into evening once listening to their covers of some my favorite music. And Kelly Clarkson's Beautiful Disaster covers my love life well right down to my rescuer tendencies.

Mayim Bialik's Breakdown podcast got me interested in the music of David Archuleta, and double checking the spelling of his name by looking him up on YouTube since i had it open for another thread i came across this one i hadn't the first time i looked up some of his music. Somehow this song seems to fit here because the biggest battles most of us have are with ourselves--how live, change grow into the people/souls we want to be. i'm guessing he may have done the sketches for this 'Official Lyrics Video' by the Block Printed "DA" in bottom right corner, but haven't been able to confirm that yet as searches pop up way too much info not looking for...

Since 2009, I had a flip phone. So a week ago, I got a iPhone13. I used to think it was pretentious when I heard people ask Siri stuff. But I got to try it out. I like the guy's voice best, so Siri is a "him". But like an idiot, after I ask something, and he answers, I automatically say, "Thank you". I'm amazed at the technology in my little black box, my first iPhone.

Mine is similar to fuzzybuddy's story,I too had a 'pay as you go' flip phone since 2005
I don't like change but I knew I had to find a different phone by the end of summer. After doing some research I decided on buying a Galaxy 10e Tracfone from Best Buy. The clerk who helped me was wonderful,set up the phone for me OMG! what a difference,took me a couple day to get use to,don't know why I waited so long
I know I didn't want to spend an 'arm&leg' for a Iphone,the tracfone is my next step in tech world.When I found out I could play some games I was a happy camper,still am
