When were you last served for Jury Duty.

I was served today by The Superior Court and mailed in my request to Decline due to my extreme hearing loss.

I was selected for jury duty about 5 years ago and did not have to report.

In my area you are required to call each day to see if your assigned number will be required to report the following day and they never reached my number.

That was the only time in my life that I have been selected, which is fine with me.

I was called once in the 1970s when my kids were toddlers. I had nobody to take care of them and had to decline. I have never been chosen since.

They call me almost every year! I served once on a jury and was chosen another time but that case settled. Last year, I ignored the summons. This year I deferred it until sometime next Spring like I usually do, then hope they won't need me as usual.

In Florida you are exempt after age 70 and in Arizona it is 75.

I received notice once in AZ and I replied that I would be back home in September. I got no response to that. I received notice a few years later and was exempted because I was 75.

A bunch of people were called for Jury Duty a year or so ago , even knew what trial we would be hearing, we showed up went to the room we were directed to and found the perp had apparently pled guilty and there would be no trial. So we all went home.

The only time before that I got a summons, from a state I no longer live in. I ignored it, soon after I got a notice there were going to arrest me if I didn't show up. I ignored that too. I guess they may have gone to the old place and discovered I no longer lived there.

Once...perhaps 25 years ago. It still sticks in my mind. It was a manslaughter trial, where some drunken driver had caused a wreck that killed a young husband/wife. We found him guilty, and the judge sentenced him to several years in prison. If I ever had any sympathy for someone who drinks and drives, that trial erased it.

I served on jury duty over 30 yrs ago and I would never want to serve again. The trial was for a Father who was accused of Incest, Rape and Corrupting the Morals of a Minor. After all these years I still remember the creeps name and address. We of course found him guilty with all the evidence they presented. The trial lasted for 3 weeks and when it was over they held us for another day, because they needed a few more jurors for another case. It was a murder case and we would have been sequestered. Thankfully I wasn't picked for that one. Thinking about it now I can still get the same sick feeling over what that animal did to his daughter.

I was about a year ago. I now have a permanent excuse from jury duty I obtained from my MD. It was an easy process. Your MD does not have to give any details or any information as to "why." In fact the woman who I spoke to on the phone with the county stated they sometimes get too much information and they are not entitled to it. In case anyone is interested in a permanent excuse.

I'm not sure what the exemption age is in California. I did go once for jury selection. It was interesting enough but I was let go by the judge.

70 exempt down here...Lon check your State..

I've been called so many times to County Jury duty and one time to Federal Jury duty. I've only served on two juries though.. one time as Forman. I enjoyed the experience.. Very interesting and educational. I haven't been called for about 8 years now.. as far as I know Illinois doesn't have an age exempt law.. I would serve again if called.. I feel it's a duty.

QS is absolutely correct. It is not only a duty ,but a privilege to participate in our society.
Look at the politics section of this board. Posters are all upset over this and that and that this right or that is being trampled on or needs to be modified.
Yet when given the opportunity to actually contribute as a citizen, one of the very very few things our constitution compels us to do, most of these "good patriotic" citizens run screaming for the door.

You should be ashamed!!!!!

I have been tagged thrice. Served once, not picked once and trial averted the third.

If I ever get a summons by snail mail and it's not registered, I toss it and deny I ever received it.

My last jury duty was in downtown L.A. Difficult finding the building and parking lot.

Not much of a case; only entailed about $2K.

Our jury system won't excuse you for ANYTHING ! Age, hearing loss, no transportation, finances etc.

You just better BE THERE or be in contempt of court and spend the night in the slammer.

There was one case. A 44 year old Black woman, 114 lbs. was arrested for prostitution. She made bail and skipped. The bail guys went to NYC and grabbed a Black woman off the street, with the same name. ONLY, she was 14, weighed well over 300 lbs, and well-. I don't know how to put this, she is another human being, but even blind man would have been repulsed by her. If she were a prostitute, she would have starved to death. They came to an agreement. If it came to us to make a decision, that bail bond agency would be paying her back for at least another 50 years.

I was called many times and thankfully never had to go. The parking and traffic around the court house which you have to pay for, is terrible. I'm a very nervous driver as it is. Six years ago my hubby had heart surgery and I needed to be home with him afterwards. I used that as a valid reason and also checked the box saying to please remove my name permanently. I guess that worked because I have never been called again. I know of several people who would jump at the chance to do this,I'm not one of them. There should be a way to sign up for jury duty or a way for the person being served to submit other names. I'm sure they would end up with more than enough people.

Never called but my husband and daughter both served on juries and had interesting experiences wish I had been called.

Here in Montana you are notified by letter if you are on the Jury Call list, The term is one year and you may be notified by phone at anytime a week or so before trial date. Then you go through the selection process; if you are not chosen you remain on the jury Call list for the rest of the term. The original notification lets you know that you need to report any vacation or time away from home when you would not be available. If you don't show up for a summons, they send a deputy to wherever and arrest you.

My most recent term just expired. I was called three times, once it was settled, twice I wasn't selected. You are paid a small stipend for the days you are there, whether or not you are selected.

There are almost no excuses allowed here. I remember one mom breastfeeding twins who was excused and another with a disabled dependent she needed to care for. Everyone else--forget it. It is your duty and that's that.
