One of my earliest memories was blowing off the dried seeds from Dandelions.
We also made little curly things just for fun by taking the stem of the Dandelion, splitting it in four places and pressing down with our thumb.
We made whistles from leaves, holding them between our thumbs. I don't know how many Daisy's and Queen Anne's lace I brought to my Mom. She would put them in a glass of water with some food coloring and over a day or two the flowers would turn color.
I cut up the big pods from the Catalpa trees and made believe I was cooking beans.
I would help my Grandpa gather punks and then he dried them for the next year which he then lit to keep the mosquitoes away while we sat outside in the evening.
Then we played, he loves me,he loves me not,by pulling off the petals of a flower.
I remember when I got a little older I used a magnifying glass to burn holes in dry leaves. My Mom wasn't happy about that. lol
I'm sure there were more, I just can't remember them all. How many kids would be entertained by doing these things today? I bet not many.
