Where are the squirrels?

I rarely get squirrels, but have two species of chipmunks and the occasional marmot/wood chuck, bunnies, etc.. Li'l Bit (my dog) finds these are the things that apparently give her life meaning. I look at it like I look at my shop time, so I have a certain amount of empathy with her situation. Every time I let her out the door she runs to the grill, because she just knows that chippy is in there. I accommodate her by lifting the grill lid and saying, no not today. The chippy has been in there a few times, but I tell him to stay still, and not to say anything. He has disregarded my advice a few times and just bailed with Li'l Bit in close pursuit. So far he has gotten away but it has been very close.

We have a bird feeder on the tree in our courtyard, not only for the birds but so our two cats can look out the window and be entertained. We also have rocks under the tree. Every morning when I go outside, the rocks are all over the place because the squirrels have been digging them up to eat the bird food that falls from the feeder. I'm always glad to put the rocks back in place because these little critters are so cute. We have them all over the place. Some can be downright domesticated.

Did ya'll know that squirrels make a noise that sounds like a duck? One had climbed up a drainage pipe right next to my patio. I kept hearing something that sounded like a duck (or maybe a goose). I looked out my window several times because I know we don't have any ducks or geese around here. Finally I saw the squirrel and it was bucking it's tail while making that sound. I didn't know if it was trying to give birth or what. As long as we've had squirrels around here, that was the first and only time I heard that sound.

I have the same problem with the wood chips around my bushes in the front of the house. Squirrels are always digging holes in the chips looking for nuts. And I patiently repair all the holes, wondering when and how the little buggers got me trained!

Our squirrels have disappeared!
Maybe just as well:

Diseases Squirrels Carry

Squirrels are known to carry numerous diseases, though only a few are dangerous to humans. Some of the more common include tularemia, typhus, plague, and ringworm. Such diseases are transmitted through bites or other forms of direct contact with infected squirrels. Tularemia, typhus, and plague have symptoms that mimic the flu and can be deadly when left untreated.

Maybe raw peanuts in the shell will bring squirrels. My dad put raw peanuts under a big oak tree in my yard in the past, and we ended up with many squirrels. I love watching squirrels play.
