Where do you get your hair cut, and how much does it cost?

My hairdresser, who has cut my hair for about 20 years,
comes to me since the covid pandemic, I pay £20, but we
friends, more than barber and client, her visits last for at
least an hour and usually longer.

Mike.

I go to an old fashioned barbershop and a haircut there costs $18.00.
The barber inherited the business from his father who started it in the 1940's.
The old guy died a few years ago and the two chair shop is now a one chair shop.
The place is in the downtown part of a small midwest US city and could be the setting for a Norman Rockwell illustration.

I cut my own hair and guess it shows :ROFLMAO:
I haven't had someone else cut my hair since in the military and on deployment in 2004 because I couldn't cut it myself "out there".
But actually I've been cutting my own hair since the late 70's / early 80's.
I've saved a buck or two, so there's that regardless of the outcome.

I mostly use clippers with attachments and a handheld mirror to trim the line in back. I even have a Flowbee HA.

This is from just this past Wednesday night after a haircut (photo taken to share with a friend) ... I was struggling to reach the camera and forgot to take my readers off ...

Good job!

My dad had lots of thick hair right up until he died. After he had a stroke and I was taking care of him, I found an awesome old-fashioned totally men's barber shop not far from his house and took him every month or so for a cut and to get his beard trimmed and cleaned up.

This shop was so cool; all oak features, old-timey photos on the walls, the barbers were all middle-aged men who had lots of experience and wore those traditional white barber smocks, and none of them painted their nails or wore makeup...not that a man who wears makeup and fingernail polish can't give a guy a great cut, I'm just sayin', my elderly father was very comfortable with the atmosphere in this shop. He really looked forward to haircut days, and cost didn't matter.

Back in the 80's when really big hair was in style, I stood in Kroger looking at the home perms and told my husband I could get a perm at the salon for about a hundred dollars or he could give me one at home. He was willing to try. Turned out that with a can of beer for courage he got the hang of it right away, bragging about his ability to use two end papers at once.

I don't perm anymore, but my hair is still long. My husband cuts the back straight across (takes him about ten seconds) then I cut the front and the layers, which takes a few minutes longer.

I not only save money I don't risk a stroke from the shampoo sink.

My husband trims the very back which sets the measurements in motion from back to front. I found a great hair stylist in a far away town when I traveled for work. Since I stopped going there I started cutting my own with the help of YouTube.

I like to go to GreatClips on Wednesday which is senior day. It saves about 5 dollars which I then tip. The one closest to me is not very good so I go a few miles further where the haircutters are older and more experienced. My hair is very fine so when I find someone who knows how to maximize body I go for it.

My mother owned a salon for forty years, and only she cut my hair. After she passed, my girlfriend, who was also a hairdresser, cut it. I didn't actually pay for a haircut until I was in my mid-thirties. I go to a local salon and pay $55.00 for the haircut, and I give her a $10.00 tip. 💇‍♀️

Hubby will sometimes trim his own beard. Sometimes I trim the back of his hair when it bothers him between barber shop trips. He goes to a men's national chain shop. I now get my hair trimmed there. The people there don't really know how or want to do women's hair. But, a few will do blunt cuts, which is all I need. Usually come in with washed hair. Although, they have really cool vibrating chairs in the shampoo room. Cost is $16 for hubby with beard trim and $12 for my trim.

Today I tried a barber shop at random in the nearest town to where I have just moved. It's old school: no appointments, walk in only and cash only. Barbers are younger guys but they cut hair the old fashioned way. I like the shop, it feels like the shops of my younger years. Haircut was $16.

LOL. When I saw the thread title, I thought I would be the first to post that I cut my own hair. To my great surprise and relief, it is not the case. Thank you, those who cut their own, for making me feel better. The $15.00 investment (Walmart) in a set of clippers 12 years ago is one of the best I ever made. When my father died last year at 93, I brought home his pair and now have a backup. I will probably never need another.

It's about £60 to get just a straightforward hair cut here in a regular salon with no extras... no shaping, etc..

In fact one chain of hairdressers.. Supercuts.. ...charge different prices for long or short hair..

Now I personally don't see how cutting 6 inches off the ends and 2 inches makes any difference ... but they charge £30 for a trim if the hair is above the shoulders.. or more if it's below the shoulders.. ...they're terrible hairdressers anyway.. so it gives me a good excuse not to go there...

Mostly I get my hair cut at the College hair Salon, where the students are training to be Hairdressers.

They are totally supervised by highly qualified hairdressers.. and because they're trainees, it costs a fraction of a Salon to have it done there..
