Where does the new generation get its ideas?

Every generation has its own quirks, styles, music and ideas. Where does the new generation get its ideas? When we were kids, it was obvious that we didn't think like our parents. Why? Our kids don't have the same values as us, again why? It's easy to blame the schools. But many of the same teachers, who taught us, taught our kids. ???????????????

The kids, like we did, get their ideas from each other; from popular music; from favorite social media sites where it spreads.

Funny, today's generation would say to us "your values were better than ours?"...…...with a very big question mark. Remember, we had Woodstock, Monterey Pop Festival, California Jam and others. I lived with my first wife for a few months, before we were married. Heck, I lived with my "now" wife for a year, before we married, however, she was wearing an engagement ring for the entire year. Some of us Baby Boomers hit a marijuana bong, pipe or doobie at times. Some even done some very illegal drugs. What was shown in the movie, Forest Gump (drugs), was very true. The "F" word was being said back then quite a bit. Heck, Country Joe & The Fish even had the crowd at Woodstock spell the word out!

So, just what am I saying...…..we sure weren't as innocent as we sometimes portray we were. I'm almost 70, so I went thru a lot of it, except for the years I was in the Navy during Nam.

I suppose that the new generation is just reacting to the previous generations bad ideas.

I don't think there's anything to blame anyone for. There are many good people in the 'new generation', and then there's some bad apples....just like there were in our generation. I never liked the same music, etc. that my parents did, they never liked mine, and I imagine if I had a child, they wouldn't like what I listen to either. I think that change of attitudes, styles, etc. is a very natural thing.

Nothing has changed for thousands of years. Here's a quote attributed to Socrates:

“The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.”
