Where to stay, San Diego, CA.??? Late Feb 2023.

Need to find a place for late Feb 2023, in San Diego CA. 3-4 days. Moderate priced. perhaps with kitchenette or kitchen privileges. A get away with DW.

Also what to do with DW, who will not be interested in Midway. ?

Decided on, BW+, Hacienda. In Old Town. airport shuttle to OT transit center-bus&rail station and a short walk 4 blocks to hotel. We will be using public transportation where convenient. Got some reward points.
I like to stay at independently owned places-always older properties, definitely with character,
Originally booked hostel single room with kitchenette . It too was convenient. Also "cheap," but security seemed sketchy-if I was doing this solo, I would no problems with a hostel.

My friend and I stayed at the Hacienda hotel in old town a few years ago...It is lovely, It is on a very steep hill, the walking was tough for us...We had a car and the hotel parking was limited and tight, in fact we had to park in a nearby lot one night. We ate at the Cantina Restaurant that is close to hotel several times....good food and reasonably priced.
You are going at a good time of year, it was very hot the time we were there....I hope you have a wonderful trip!

Old town is wonderful! Great food! Spanish music. You will love it.
Mission Valley has many hotels (off Hwy 80) but not much ambiance.
Shelter Island has shows, entertainment, great ambiance, but pricey.
I think your choice is the best! Enjoy!

I love San Diego. Have been a few times and we stayed in the downtown area. Their public transportation system was really efficient. The airport is practically right in the downtown area; less than 4 miles. Have a great trip.

I spent a lot of time in San Diego, but mainly lived on base. I really enjoyed my time there and the weather was almost perfect everyday.

There is always a place to stay on the streets.

Yes we saw the Safari Park, it is well worth seeing...we rented scooters, there was no way we could walk the entire park...the scooter rental is just inside the entrance gate. The only other thing we did in Balboa park was the Botanical gardens.
We also went to Coronado but we drove over on the big bridge.

Things to do:
SD Zoo in Balbao Park.
Balboa Park, Conservatory, museums.
Coronado via Ferry
Little Italy & Saturday Market.
May do Gaslight area
Go up coast via train (will do this on Monday as we head to LA), May do this earlier. Botanical Garden @ Encinda.
Go down coast.
Old Town.

I stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel for two nights. Nice area, very clean, food is in their restaurant, very nice employees and the rooms were very comfortable, especially the beds. I was in uniform while I was there, so it is possible that I was treated just a bit different.

Hacienda Hotel, boutique. was only on a slight hill, shares a parking lot with the old town StatePark. Five elevators. Eight separate buildings. The Tequila Factory hotel restaurant is very good, competitive pricing, interesting menu, experienced rest. staff. Hotel is a block off CA101-main street. 3-4 blocks from Old Town Transit Center with Blue, Red San Diego MTS light rail and buses. Coastal county light rail, and Surfrider Cal heavy rail. PRONTO senior fares got us around where convenient and Lyft where necessary.
