Where was the most boring place you ever visited?

A cruise around San Diego harbor on some local embarcadero cruise ship. Just a floating bar with noisy drunks, and bad live music. (you know it's bad if you're half drunk and they still stink). Worst part... no way to leave unless you're a good swimmer. Couldn't wait to hit dry ground.

Luckily the little town of West Yellowstone had a place where kids could put food out for bears (bears not let loose until the kids were all back out of the enclosure), plus a stuffed moose to take pictures with, and an old-timey candy store that I enjoyed more than I should of.

While on an extended road trip around the west & north west Yellowstone was on the agenda for 3 days to check out. That little town west of the west entrance had the nicest little country store that would make up a picnic basket for a decent price.

At a picnic area we were able to watch buffalo grazing in the distance.
Then rather than watch Old Faithful from the viewing area in front of the hotel we hiked a trail to be able to watch from a knoll about 1/4 mile on the back side.

Another day we went down the steel stairs at the place called the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.

Did a lot of hiking all the boardwalks & trails there.
 
Corfu Greece... 25 years ago.... the town of Corfu has restaurants and bars, a harbour, and some lovely places to visit... albeit a small main town but very very busy with tourists.. ...aside from that there's nothing to do in Corfu.. unless you want to stay by the beaches all day.

There's even less to do where we booked a hotel which we didn't realise was 40 km up in the mountains, where the only hotel was the rundown one we were staying at.. we had no idea it was run down until we got a good view in daylight ...which when we arrived at 4am in the morning after a long coach ride from the airport where we dropped off people on the way... to find the whole apartment was flooded.. .. and we had to be given another room,, wich was run down and grubby

The only entertainment in the area was an equally run down bar with a pool table that had seen better days . There was no made roads, everywhere was clay and mud...... we managed to hire a car so we could drive the trecherous mountain road down to Corfu town.. but it meant we couldn't stay out after dark because it would be too dangerous to drive back. ..so we'd get back in the early evening, and sit twiddling our thumbs until bedtime...

never ever again... !

1) Boise, Idaho. I had an account with a call center there so I visited them with my sales rep. One of the agents in their call center was wearing a baseball cap with a fishing lure on it. That's all I remember about it.
2) Canberra, Australia. I was there for a conference. It is the capital of Australia. Attendees from other conferences in our hotel looked like they were from the 60's. Aside from the cockatoos, I found nothing interesting about it.
3) Civitavecchia, Italy. It is pretty far from Rome. Ships dock there and we were inaugurating a new one, so my company put me up in a hotel there. There was nothing to do and, for Italy, it is one of the most boring and unattractive cities I've ever visited.

Doug... the place where I nicked the idea for this thread.. on there about a dozen people said Canberra... as being the most boring place they'd ever been

I was shocked because knowing it's the Australian capital I just presumed it would have the same type of Interest... and entertainment as capital cities like London, Paris, Rome, Prague etc.... but apparently not

I was just heading to bed when I remembered something for this thread: the World Showcase part of Disney World's EPCOT—only the World Showcase, and only because my father and his wife, who were treating me and my three kids about 14 years ago, insisted that the only country pavilion we visited was America! I was like, "We're IN America! Can we not visit, say, France, or Sweden, and perhaps actually learn something?" (I'm shaking my head as I type.)

I'm sure the other parts of the World Showcase were great. But as someone who grew up here, the U.S. part seemed like a totally boring, illogical choice. I think the reason they insisted on it was because it had a little theater showing a U.S. history film and they wanted to sit down.

Then they made us sit through The Carousel of Progress, which I personally thought was a total snoozefest.

That's not to say it wasn't a fun visit. There were lots of fantastic and fun rides and attractions we went on. The Haunted Mansion particularly stuck out. But the kids and I still laugh at the absurdity of going to the U.S. pavilion when we'd all grown up in the States.

I hadn't been to a cinema in the uk for years... so when we went I wasn't expecting the fierce air con, so I was freezing.... .. the very loud stereo sound... and the boredom of the film... it went on so long....almost 3 hours.... :eek:

I can sympathize. I havent been to a movie in eons. It would have to be exceptional for me to suffer thru one.
Nothing against movies. I just dont fit in the seats. It was even worse with the husband. I am tall and he was tall and wide. :D

Hi hollydolly: I had to travel to Canberra, back in the 80's. It was a boring place. It was in the middle of Summer and the flies
are as big as cockroaches. Everybody has them stuck to their backs. Had to buy insect spray for the night mozzies. The city
is built in a grand circle and we drove along the same street, countless times trying to find our way out. Remember that Chevy Chase movie when they were driving past Buckingham Palace multiple times trying to get off? same thing. .

We were in Las Vegas and booked a one-day bus tour of the Grand Canyon. The bus left the hotel about 7am and it kept breaking down. We didn't arrive there until 5pm or so. Stayed for thirty minutes, reboarded the bus and headed back to Vegas. Along the way, it broke down again. They finally sent another bus that got us back to the hotel in Vegas, middle of the night.

While we were standing there looking out at the Canyon, I turned to my husband and said, "It looks just like the pictures." He agreed. That's when I said, "May have well just looked at the pictures and skipped coming."

That was my impression. Thanks for confirming it.

Not many things known for their tremendous size are worth a visit.

Maybe Niagara Falls.
 
Very early on in my life I went to the Sydney Opera House on a school trip. We saw a piano recital and I fell asleep.
Perth City Centre is extremely boring. Nothing actually to do but walk around and window shop. Perth has been dubbed Dullsville for good reason.
Fremantle? Exactly the same, a run-down place trying to entice people so they can walk around and spend their cash. Fremantle recently held the Sail Grand Prix, made exclusively expensive, general public could get nowhere near the shoreline, even the highest point, the Roundhouse, was fenced off, and patrolled by police to keep the hoi polloi away.
Small country towns, nothing there, open up latish, close early, nothing after dark. Extremely boring
 
I would have to nominate las Vegas. I'm not impressed with glitzy lights and lots of sparkly things and, being a native of NSW Australia, I'm not impressed with gambling dens. We have plenty of them at home.

I felt pity for the old woman we met there who came, by herself, every year to celebrate her birthday. I'd much rather have a celebratory dinner with friends and relatives than waste time and money on slot machines.
 
I didn't like Paris. Went there as a teen with some classmates with the bus. The things you could visit were nice, but the place was full with beggars. That was in the 80s. They pulled me away cause I felt sorry for them all and wanted to give them money, but I only had 50 or so for a day.

Oh lol Venice. We were camping in Italy when I was a kid and one day we went to Venice to a restaurant at a boulevard and had some food and a cola. Apparently it was insane expensive and my dad was so angry. The rest of the holiday we stayed at the camping. He was especially angry about the drinks lol.
 
Ya know, I’m not sure the most boring place I ever visited was actually boring at all. Some of the best times I’ve had were in places where there was nothing much to do. When you stop trying to escape the boredom and just sit with it, something shifts. You realize you’re not bored anymore, even though you didn’t fix anything. You just stayed long enough for curiosity to wake up on its own. Usually nothing flashy happens, but sometimes something useful does.

What looks like a dead end can turn out to be a side road, if you’re willing to stop and see where it leads ... well, except at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) waiting room. That road just loops back to the same chair in purgatory with bad lighting.

you couldn't be more right about Paris , it' an absolute S hole full of beggars & thieves, and rude French..and expensive enough to mke your eyes water even for a coffee...

I been to two places and both for work.

Spokane, Washington a couple days of work at the local transit authority office. Nothing but freezing rain the whole time so just sat in my hotel room

Montvale, NJ, Corp training at the head office and my hotel was miles away in some small dump off a highway. The one near the office was all booked up.again nothing to do after hours.
