Where were you when the world stopped turning?

We still lived in Michigan, and I was at work. DS called and asked if I was watching the news. Um. No. We didn't have a TV in the office, and there were no smartphones then. Turned on the radio (remember radios?) and was just horrified. DD was at work. Grabbed her stuff and left to gather her babies and get home. She was scared to death because this city is so big that it wouldn't have been unreasonable to think that it would be next.

It was a terrible event... I remember being in the car , husband and I had just been married 9 months.. and we took a call from my daughter who was saying that there had been a terrible Plane crash.. we thought she meant here, because we were driving in the countryside , with a bad phone signal..so we turned on the radio to hear what was going on. Even then the reporting wasn't sure about what was actually happening.. but we soon came to learn.

However, altho' it was a horrendous event... terrible and very sad....... but to the rest of us outside of the USA, the World did not stop turning...we had all been subjected to many terrorist attacks.. in Europe.. for years

We were just finishing breakfast and had the tv on, when the news came on that a plane had hit the first tower. We stayed glued to the tv news, and things got worse with every passing minute. I was almost sickened watching this, as going to the top of the WTC towers was one of my favorite things to do when in NYC. I cannot comprehend the mindset of people who would commit such acts.

My husband had died shortly before 9-11. I had plans to go to lunch with a couple of widows that day. We decided to go ahead, not to escape the news but so as not to be alone. My two older brothers were volunteer firemen back on Long Island. In the coming weeks they along with other fire fighters in the tri state area helped plan and execute memorial services for many NYC firemen who had lost their lives. The city was overwhelmed by the magnitude of death.

We got word at work. Corporate sends a message to let anyone go home who was too upset to work. Within 10 minutes, I was the only one left (out of about 60 employees).....I'm just the Executive Assistant. Corporate then called and said we had to keep the office open. How? Everyone's gone, we have patients and doctors' offices calling for pre-certs and I have no ability or authority to issue them . Get 'em back, I'm told. Yeah, how?

I call a couple of supervisors who have left and tell them I need personnel in the office for all departments. Some wander back in, surly and pissed off.

I stay there the rest of the day to help out and answer the main number.

I was at home but was busy and hadn't turned on the TV or radio. My husband called me, I think it was about 11:00 am, and that's how I found out what had happened. I immediately turned on the TV and saw the horror and devastation. My God.

We were living in a suburb outside D.C. at the time. My late husband was working at a federal office building in DC. He called me at home, from outside his building because they let them leave the building as soon as it happened. He told me to watch the news. He had heard the impact of the plane hitting the Pentagon. It was horrific what happened to those poor people!

I was branch Leading Petty Officer (LPO) at Fleet Combat Training Center Atlantic (FCTCLANT), in Dam Neck Virginia.
That day I was "on the stick" ... teaching a group of sailors in a classroom environment.
One of the other instructors who wasn't teaching that day, came to the classroom and informed us of the unfolding events.
I dismissed the students for the day and watched the horror on TV with other staff members and Officers.

The USS John F Kennedy CV-67 (pictured) would be the fourth and last ship I served aboard.
My last visit to New York City was in 2005 for Fleet Week.
There we met up with the Marines we supported with flight cover during their campaign in Fallujah.

Prior to 9/11 and on an earlier visit to "The City", I'd gone to top of one of the towers.
The view was absolutely amazing. Off to the left (from atop the tower) and in the distance, the Statue of Liberty looked tiny.
And although the statue appeared small, it was and still is a patriotic inspiration.

Photo of Kennedy steaming up the Hudson River, obviously taken before 9/11

I was driving to work and turned on the radio. When I arrived people were in the break room with the tv on. It was never on. In between seeing clients everyone would go there to watch the news.

A good friend of mine from high school had just started working at the pentagon. It took me days to get a hold of her and luckily she was at a training so not there. My mom and sister were visiting and were stuck in Nevada because the planes weren’t flying. I was supposed to fly to New York to visit a friend a month later and I canceled.

The Muslim Brotherhood has since issued a document saying they can take over the United States without physical violence by infiltrating all our institutions such as government, education, medical, judicial, and religious interfaith organizations

Many "bodegas" in NYC have been bought out by Muslims. While they refuse to sell beer, they will still sell gambling (lottery); drug paraphenalia and actual drugs. Oh, and I forgot cigarettes. I find it most annoying and I don't even drink anymore. If the people weren't so likeable I would boycott for the beer refusal.

They all decorate the windows of their stores with silver lighting. Bothers me somehow, but the religious Jews string wire around their neighborhoods so I am not singling this out. I don't like either. Must be a middle east thing.

I was living north of Boston MA. I was listening to Howard Stern on the radio and had the TV turned to Today show, silenced. When Howard reported what was happening the TV was showing it. Horrifying. Almost lost 2 friends that day, but thankfully did not.

I was in the kitchen and had The Today Show on. When the first plane hit it seemed odd. How could a plane hit the tower?
Must have been a small plane. No, it was an airliner. What the heck?
Then the second plane hit. Katy Couric's face changed. This was no accident. A sickening feeling started.
I called my husband. He'd been in Desert Shield.
Then the Pentagon. And, something was going on in with another airliner.

The world didn't stop turning but the US would never be the same.

Another conspiracy theory, meant to stir up hatred for Muslims! It originates in unwarranted fear of that which is different!

AND YET....22 years after this tragedy, The Masterminds are still being housed in Guantanamo, and Still haven't been brought to trial. This makes me wonder just what is our government trying to hide????

Guantanamo trial for 9/11 mastermind in disarray on 22nd anniversary
They are STILL there? I guess I knew that, just had it in back of mind. Do you feel our government was aware of things? I think I remember reading the same about Pearl Harbor...our government knew SOMETHING
