Whew, Dodged a Bullet for My Baby

Like I posted a couple days ago, I write much better than I talk. Especially in a confrontation I just turn into an ostrich. But after that horrible day with Callie I was just a mess. Fortunately we lived in an area where they don't take dogs away unless its a really bad situation. For instance there are people several blocks over that have a mountain dog and a bully.

These dogs roam together frequently enough we just got used to grabbing spare leashes and taking them home. The family get warnings and fines repeatedly but still the dogs pop up. Some counties would pick them up and make them disappear. We've started walking the dogs and no more being in the yard at all.

I wrote a really apologetic note that I am truly sorry about what happened and really Callie isn't a monster. He's strong and actually very playful. I think that's what happened there. He just thought he was giving her a big happy greeting and terrified her in the process. She wrote back today. My hands were shaking holding the letter.

She wrote a brief note that she wanted $200 for the jacket he ripped, then case closed. I got it over to her within minutes. Whewwww, the troubles our kids get us into sometimes...

Pleased for you, Fur.
How it that fence now?

Just a thought, could you invite your neighbour over for a cup of coffee and a supervised meet and greet with your dogs.
This might help alleviate her fear. It might also help the dogs to recognise a friend.

Great news! Glad it all worked out.

I can imagine your fear as you got the letter from her, I get that too when I am anticipating the unknown. Then Whew! Everything is going to be okay now. I'm so happy for you that this incident is over with for you. :love_heart:

If she came in she'd take one look at the Bearded Dragon and rats and take off screaming...wish I could do that though. I know she's really actually a very nice person...retired RN. Like my husband said it's too bad she couldn't have met him from the beginning. Of course then again at the beginning he wasn't super stranger friendly. Now I can take him to my job and he loves everyone he meets. Women and children especially, that's why it's sad she's so frightened. Strange women will come up and bury his head in their chests and he drools he's so pleased.

Glad it worked out. Did not realize you had rats too. They are all I have..and I know people I have over often are hesitant. BUT, that being said, had someone who knows I have them grill me for some time about them, as her son would like some. I told her to contact me any time if she wants more info, or even bring her son over to meet my girls.

%#@%^&$#@ *&%$#**%$ *^$%%%#$% Okay my random thoughts at this moment. Add @#$%$#$%*&(^%$$. There was a shelter group at my door today. I understand they gas the bully breeds in their truck. My boy is between them and whatever sanity we can bring to the original reporter. Would I off myself yes.

No apparently she set the wheels in motion. A dog unrelated to our family. Brown pit bull running loose. Could have been Callie right? How to prove that no that is not our boy. A #$%$*&% witch hunt. And our generic brown boy should be burned at the stake. I remember her screaming " There are young children next door!!!!". My grand boy was inches from him...he whined a bit but didn't eat him.

So Callie's okay, they knew it wasn't him? What happened to those people in your neighborhood that had all those pit bulls, and they came and went, may have been dog fighting? Are they gone, dogs okay?

...I guess with everything else I have to deal with...I'm afraid I've reached a tipping point. They're trying to claim that neighbors have seen Callie running around the neighborhood. There is a brown pitbull that runs around the neighborhood. It is not Callie. I talked to the former animal control officer and she gave me some idea what we might be up against. She knew everybody and their situations. Now they've farmed out animal services to the lowest bidder. The cast of "Deliverance" who just does what they're told. I cried myself to sleep last night and woke up crying today...almost ready to sign myself in except everybody needs me.

Sounds to me like if they had proof it was Callie, they would have taken him on the spot if he was dangerous, or slapped you with a hefty fine. These days with cell phone cameras, I'm sure some people who called in complaints about that other pit bull at large would at least have some photos or videos of him running around the hood. He can't look exactly like your dog, regardless of breed IMO.

Makes sense SB. Sounds like an attempt at intimidation may be in the works also.

A witch hunt...he isn't the only brown pit bull in the neighborhood. But people can twist and %$#& it up in so many ways. They are strangers who don't know you or your dogs. Your husband's brother used to shoot fireworks into their yard thirty years ago. Yeah that might be a dog from that house sure...
