"Fun with Dick and Jane," first grade in 1951. The book that taught me how to read! The rest is history, as they say.
That's the name of it. I couldn't remember the name. I think most of us baby boomers learned to read by that book. I have no idea what they're reading now..probably something more sophisticated."Fun with Dick and Jane," first grade in 1951. The book that taught me how to read! The rest is history, as they say.
My grandma took me to the library right after she got me, and I have always been grateful she didn't put any restrictions on what I could read.I read all sorts of books. I remember reading all the Nancy Drew mysteries in the 3rd grade, I was shocked when my friends in high school were reading them.I was reading pretty much anything I could get my hands on, thank goodness for the library because we were poor. After I was married my DH loved reading too, then after the kids came along I would read to them, then I became aware of Mark Twain, Loved all the ones I could get my hands on.I recall, at age 10, being the only child allowed to select books in the 'Adult' section of our small local library.
