Which chores do you stay ahead of and which do you repeatedly put off?

StarSong

Awkward is my Superpower
Homes, cars, computers, and our bodies themselves require a lot of maintenance. Some things we manage better than others.
What do you get squared away immediately with little drama, and what do you keep putting off?

I'll start:
I easily stay current on laundry - from getting it started to folding and putting away. Also grocery shopping, dishes, sweeping, mopping and general straightening up. Go to the doctor for annual physicals and whatever other needs pop up, and hit the dentist twice a year for cleaning.

Keeping up with dusting and windows? Ugh... not so much.

DH manages car and pool maintenance, and our gardener takes care of everything growing outside. Thank goodness for all of that!

Mopping. I have a lot of floor surface to mop (laminate) and it really wears me out sometimes. I'd rather sweep and vacuum. I went through last week and cleaned the whole house, it needed it.
So, now I can coast for awhile w/out having to do (major) housework. :)

I'm good with laundry, taking out trash, dusting, kitchen and bathrooms inc. mopping.

I'm not so good at vacuuming, washing out refrigerator, keeping bathroom vanity cabinets organized.

My car? Hah! Rolling dumpster.
I'll never forget one of Rhoda Morgenstern's many hilarious-but-true comments on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Mary's car, of course, was pristine and well maintained. Rhoda described her own as a traveling purse.

My car and purse are like that. All kinds of things wind up in both and despite periodical clear-outs, within a short period of time they go right back to where they were.

p.s. I rarely vacuum - hated that chore since childhood, even more than dusting. Roomba has been a total game changer for me.

I don’t vacuum, dust, or wash windows as often as I should.

I’m pretty good with everything else.

I’m fortunate that nothing in my little apartment takes much time or effort.

My vehicle is neat but dusty. I’ve owned it 12 years and no one other than the kids at the garage have been in it and they don’t seem to mind. 😉🤭😂

I hate it all... but I cannot leave it... I do the gardening, the weeding, the cutting of hedges... I wash the floors, the bathrooms.. the everything... what I do procrastinate about is vaccing the stairs, because it kills my back.. so I use a lightweight cordless Hand vac instead of the big Miele... and I really use the little vac in all the rooms every day.. and then use the Miele on the stairs once a month...so the my achiles heel caused by my poorly back is the vaccing...

I'm very good about staying on top of the laundry, dishes, and general cleaning. I tend to procrastinate cleaning the bathroom because I hate doing it so much.

I'm terrible about bigger projects, though, like cleaning the refrigerator and my blinds. I just thought to check my blinds today, and they're gross! I have only one window, though, so it shouldn't be too taxing.

I see that a lot of people put off cleaning the windows.. I don't mind doing the windows I do them just about every week or 2.. the whole house inside and out... ..but the blinds are Venetian blinds as well as roller blinds.. and I dust them when I see dust on them.. so probably every other week... but they do get missed more often than all the other jobs around the house...

I've just thought of a job I really hate doing.. cleaning out the fridge.. and defrosting the freezer....I have one larder freezer which is self defrosting, and I have chest freezer which needs to be manually defrosted..

I do it but I put it off and put if off.. until I can't ignore it any longer

I finally got around to pulling out the refrigerator and cleaned out the dust bunnies that were starting to threaten the entire contents of the freezer by plugging up the air flow. Cleaned the floor while I was at it. The icemaker is now at peace and the freezer contents no longer scream at me.

Little to see to in town here
Not worth mentioning

Now, up at the cabin....

Maintain the jennys (change oils twice a week)
Top off the ones in use

Load the wood racks near the cabin

Get water

Tend and rotate the propane tanks

Wash and hang laundry (daily)

Fetch water

Chop wood (every day...winter was coming)

14 cord of wood.jpg

Winters were long

Winter;
Shovel/blow snow
Hunt
Dig wood out of the ice

Ugh; I agree! I have always loathed having to defrost freezers. Before the divorce, I had the same two freezers as you. I was actually glad that the people who bought the house asked that we include them with the purchase.

Of course, now I have only my small freezer that's part of the refrigerator. But it's just me using it, so it's all good.

yikes.. I cannot pull the fridge freezer out or the washing machine or cooker.. now I'm on my own... 😦

I got rid of freezers that need defrosting decades ago. What a terrible chore that is!

Totally blanked on the blinds. Some need replacing but I hate the thought of buying more of the same because I detest cleaning them - even more than dusting.

Like I say the Larder freezer ( the big one ) is self defrosting... it's the small chest freezer that needs manual defrosting....defrosting

The worst of it is having to take all the food out and find somewhere that'll keep it frozen until the job is done..

Thats a LOT of wood Gary.
How many cords did you have to cut per year?

I take it that you miss being up at the cabin!

Many of us remember when @Gary O' lived there. Chores nearly every day, but the estimable benefits included gorgeous scenery, peace and quiet, and a place to feel close to God and the natural world.

I’ve been here 6 1/2 years and remember Gary and his wife when they lived there.
His thread was always soothing to read. He’d take pictures of his favourite chipmunks and the deer that would come by. He’d even show pictures of him having a bath outside. Lol. They were G rated. No worries. We love Gary.
