Which decade was the best to live in?

You can choose any decade from any century.
Im thinking some of those rich colonial British had a good life in the early 1900s. Somerset Maugham types.Travel and writing.
Possibly the 1920s before the crash.
The 60s because of the sexual revolution?
I probably would choose the sixtees because i love music from that decade.

I don't know.... as a woman I think I'd rather stay here. But if healthy and wealthy, that Gilded Age looks lovely. For a few weeks.

But the sixtees was not only about music. There was an innocence in Australia. Most people hadnt ever been on a plane. we didnt have a clue what was really happening outside our small community. Old ideas were being challenged. There was an excitement that change was on the horizon.
The seventies was a bit of a let down imo. I think everyone was jumping on the hippie bandwagon. There was less tension between traditional and new.

Franz Liszt I believe, Richard Wagner and more classical composers lived in that decade, but I don't know in what particular year their works were published.

I grew up in the 50s. Even without some of the modern conveniences we have now everyone seemed to have more time. Summer days were endless. Families gathered on the porch each evening to chat. No cell phones or poking at tablets. Those were good years.

I have to say I agree with you Ruth. Things were so much better then. Most Mom's were stay at home Mom's. Families having dinner together,relatives visiting,and playing with friends. Then the first few years of the 60's until the Viet Nam war. Then things really changed.

I think the years before November 22, 1963- the assassination of John F. Kennedy. It's hard to explain how everything changed after that date. It seemed that after that date, things were cruel, and somehow dirty.

I'm assuming (yes, I know) that you mean which decade was the best personally for each of us answering.
Every decade for me has something good in it when thinking back, but I really think that the decade when I turned 50 was the best for me. I think I looked my best at that age and I got to travel to the place where I was born for the next four years. I met my relatives in Vienna (Austria) and I was seriously considering moving there. My German is not good, but there are jobs in the U.S. embassy or in the the United Nations offices which didn't always need you to speak that language. I also had adventures at several jobs from that time period until I retired. If I could choose to live a particular decade again, that would be the decade I would choose. That would have been the end of the 90's and the beginning of the 2000's.

I was a little boy in the ‘50’s, so that is my favorite. Korea was over and the guys were coming home, including my dad, school was new and exciting, we had a breadman, milkman and butcher all coming to the house to sell stuff. Oh, yeah, we also had Fuller Brush, vacuum cleaner salesmen and Jewel Tea coming to the house. So many salespeople. We also would get a real hobo now and then coming and offering to do a little work for a sandwich. My mom would just make them a sandwich and a bottle of pop and send them on their way.

I would choose the 60's, just because of all the excitement and hope of that period. We really thought mankind was entering a better stage. (If only!) And I loved the fashions and the music.

About the 50's, I don't agree. I don't miss that period at all. Although I was just listening to a CD of The Best of Nat King Cole in my car, so I guess I have a certain amount of nostalgia.

It's in the 100's again today; it's become unbearable to even go outside. It's supposed to finally cool down on Tuesday. In my air-conditioned, very comfortable car, with Nat crooning to me, I was thinking how happy I am to be living in this decade. Imagine what life was like before air conditioning. In spite of all the sentimental memories, I'll take the current period we're living in, thank you.

Yes, you're right. I didn't stop to read that so well.
But to answer about any other decade of any other century I would have liked to live in, the answer is a positive none.

i was 15 in1970, so i had the best of the 60s and the 70s........
i wish i had of been older in the 60s, hippy, and flower power days, cool man Lol......
