Which is Better? One or Two?

Anyone that goes to the optometrist knows this question. One or two? Two or three? Etc? And then there’s the guessing to figure it out.

This never seems to change at the optometrists. Has anyone experienced a more advanced testing system? Will AI come up with something?

When having the measurements for my new glasses, they used a Tablet rather than that box we looked into.

Yep. Surprising to me is that they're still using the same eye chart and scoop thingy to hold over the eye not in use. It would be cool if they used some sort of AI enhanced, 3D visual tools.

It is likely that in the last 4-5 yrs before i was diagnosed with Fuch's Dystrophy that was so difficult for me and confusing for the optometrist. i had so many floaters and they were constantly moving so the choice that looked better one minute didn't the next.

The last 3 yrs of that i'd been telling them i thought something more was going on and nobody listened till 1999-2000. Finally referred to specialist and got proper diagnosis, and info. i was fortunate it was slow moving (tho i've always known when something was 'off' with my body, usually before anyone but specialist could tell).

I don't need correction for distance vision, but I had to take the test for my driver license and barely passed. After closing one eye or putting something over it, then when I uncover it, it takes awhile for that eye to return to optimal visual capacity, yet they expect me to read with it right away.

We just had our yearly exam done. Interestingly, my husband had the same reaction than me even though we both had a different technician doing the test "one or two". Actually, not "one" or "two" seem to be clear! We wondered what type of lenses would be put in our new glasses! Fortunately, it worked out OK at the end!

yes they use a tablet now at mine as well.. it's all very high tech even compared to 10 years ago....

I always try to give an honest answer to this which is better question. In my right (healthy) eye I sometimes can discern clarity of one over the other. With my left (abliopic and myopic) eye it isn't even worth offer an opinion. What my opthomologist is monitoring carefully is a cluster of floaters in one particlular area of my left eye. I'm not certain that any form of treatment is warranted, but I notice that they are more distracting as time goes on. At my age this condition may eventually effect my decision about my continued driving.

“One or two. Three or four.” Puffing, squirting, ice white lights drilling my eyeballs. That was Wednesday. It took me most of the day to recover from that and I had driven myself to the eye doctor.

Getting my prescription filled today was almost as grueling. After several no’s because they were either closed until Tuesday, or I didn’t have insurance that they used, not that my insurance would even cover new glasses, I ended up at Walmart in my county.

That was the best happenstrance ever. The girl was fantastic and spent two hours with me. She still uses her computer and also has the AI iPad which she can’t stand. She was told that eventually the desktop computer is going to go and they are going to be strictly dependent on the AI iPad. It doesn’t ask all the right questions and ended up getting her a screen freeze twice. It makes false assumptions for somebody like me because I am such an outdoor person.

I walked out of there spending $524 but that was for two pair of glasses in new frames, with a one year warranty on both pair. My very dark single vision sunglasses that I drive with and Bushhog with, and the bifocals that she spent a lot of time adjusting where the bifocal would start because I am so much of an outdoor person. When I go back to pick up those glasses, I’m going to bring her garlic sticks from Fazolis.

The $524 was not a bad price for two pair of very high tech glasses. It’s a good thing when my neighbor Bushhogged, even though he didn’t want money, I still gave him $500 because he has equipment to keep fueled up and maintenanced. Someone else would’ve cost me $1000 to get my pastures cut. The money I saved that I had already planned on spending went for my eyeglasses. Somehow looking at it that way didn’t make writing the check quite so painful —- everything in life is a trade-off.

WhIle the young lady was taking my eye measurements, etc. etc. another lady close to my age came in and had a seat beside me. The tech said you two might as well spend your time talking while I do this since you both have horses. Whellll y’all know where that went!!!! That was the best two hour waiting time I’ve had in a long time. Even the tech got involved because it turns out she and her husband rent their house out during The Celebration so we all knew some of the same people🤸🏾‍♀️🐎🤸🏾‍♀️🐎🤸🏾‍♀️🐎

So now I am broke and I’ll drink Boost until I get paid next week. Well, not quite but pretty close.

I have an October eye exam scheduled at Kaiser Permanente. My last exam at KP was performed 3 years ago with an impressive assortment of recent high tech machines. My left eye is myopic at 70/20 and my right eye has hyperopia also at 70/20. So marginally, am not required to wear eyeglasses to drive. Like most of the rest of we seniors, I also suffer from presbyopia and my house is strewn with cheap Dollar Store eyeglasses everywhere.
