White Lesbian Couple Sue After Becoming Pregnant With Sperm Donated By Black Man.
CLEVELAND (AP) — An Ohio woman and her partner have sued a Chicago-area sperm bank after she became pregnant with sperm donated by a black man instead of a white man as she’d intended.

As she intended??? isnt that some sort of racism ? Where is Rev Al when we need him?:cool:

I don't think that's racist. If a couple.. straight or gay are going to go through the physical strain.. and expense of invitro and childbirth.. isn't it reasonable to think that they want a child that looks like them? Is that a bad thing? If you are married to a white person.. and you want a child.. is it racist to expect that child to be of yours and your partners race? It's much easier to adopt a mixed race child so why go through what they did and the expense they incurred to get a mixed race child?

I don't think it's funny. If they requested a specific donor, which it seems they did, and another one was used due to incompetence at the facility, then they should sue.

Ack! Just came from having a discussion elsewhere about this, agree very much with what you have to say QS. Cut and dry as far as I'm concerned, the clinic needs to be held accountable, if for no other reason, they are to be more diligent with their disbursement procedures a small penalty isn't enough to insure that.

There's not a drop of racism I gathered from reading about this from the perspective of the couple. I'm pretty sure the majority of people regardless of ethnic makeup who go through such channels to have a child, will make a request for certain specifics. They appear to love their child, that's not at issue for them, the child isn't unwanted, it's not that simple.

Well said AprilT, regardless of ethnic makeup, any couple going through that will request certain specifics.

I guess it's showing one's true colors, but I don't like the idea of gay and lesbian couples having children, period.

Here is just one example as to why I say this. My grandson has played on a number of baseball teams as he has aged. He started playing when he was 8 and is now 17. There has been a boy that has also played on some of the same teams as my Grandson or other teams of a different level. Anyway, his parents are two lesbians. This poor boy has suffered at all kinds of humiliation by name calling and harassing phone calls and things being written about him on school walls and so on.

Then, there is also a boy that plays on a different team because he is a few years younger than my Grandson, but his father is a transvestite. You can only imagine the sort of Hell that he has been put through. So, it is not that I am homophobic or prejudice, but for the sake of the child and the humiliation, it only makes sense that perhaps G&L couples should consider the feelings and emotions the child will or may suffer.

I think it's wonderful that two loving people who can give a child the security and love it needs... It's far better than some of the disfunctional hetero families out there messing up kids for life... isn't it?

In addition, I saw the mother of the little girl interviewed last night. She loves the child and wouldn't trade her for the world. However, the clinic should be held accountable for their mistake. AND YES... any ethnic couple would want a child of their own race.. I personally know an African American couple who did this.. and their TWO sons are of AF ethnicity. as requested.

Exactly.....I see something lacking in the parental teaching of children that mistreat children of Gays or anyone else for that matter.

Two issues here;
1. I think that it's wrong for the clinic to have messed up in this way,they have spoiled things for the couple, and it is not racist.
2. I also think that any gay couple [however loving] must think long and hard before adopting or having a child, it's not a problem usually in primary school, but often is when the child is at a secondary school. Like Oldman, I know a teenager from this background and it has caused quite traumatic problems for him.Sometimes we need to put a child's life to the forefront of our thinking, and not focus all the time on our own wants.In an ideal world, it would be fine [but we do not live in an ideal world sadly.]

And sometimes an abusive alcoholic hetero-family can cause the same problems. Ask any kid if they want THAT kind of family, or a supportive loving home with two moms or two dads.. There are a lot of hoops to jump through before a gay couple can adopt.. or even have IVF.. Too bad the same hoops aren't in place for everyone capable of procreating in the back of a pick up truck.

I only know of this one case, where things have not worked well, perhaps other people have stories where it has been a success? That would be nice if they shared them. I would like to think that gay people could adopt/have children and it all works out well for all concerned, years later.

@oldman,
I respect your have a right to your own opinion. I have a number of friends...gay couples who have children...and no, those kids do NOT have problems... The one young man, now 14 is one of the most popular kids in his class...His mother is a lesbian and his Dad is gay... later the mother had twins (used same Dad's sperm) ... Joey, the young man gave a remembrance speech at a funeral not too long ago of an elderly lady who just adored him and he her... It moved nearly all to tears...
Being a retired teacher, I could make an unending list of straight parents who were NOT fit to be parents and whose children were put through hell... It all comes down to what kind of people the parents are... how novel is that?? :)

This is a difficult issue for society to deal with and like gay marriage will take time to become acceptable to the majority of the population...

I agree also, but I just don't get any of this. Men marrying men and having babies. Without trying to be too graphic, I absolutely hate having the doctor check my prostate let alone to think about what two gay guys do to one another.I'll leave it at that.

I agree oldman... Gay sex.. or lesbian sex grosses me out.. So I don't think about it. I don't think about the sex lives of my hetero friends.. because the mental picture it would conjure, with a few of the couples is equally distasteful.. BUT I figure if it makes them happy and so long as I don't have to watch.. It's none of my business.

I could care less how gay, lesbian, bi, people make love behind closed doors. There are worse concerns about this world, especial when you have so called called straight people in positions in authority over children that abuse those positions. I much rather see a loving couple regardless of their gender have custody than a couple that has no idea how to truly be caring parents and are neglected in so many ways.

The family makeup has changed in many ways for the better, many kids that never would have had a loving home, are now finding a place, whether that be with a couple as we once knew it to be or more of how we see them on shows like "Modern Family". My feeling, if you're not part of the solution, to helping improve society over all, than stfu.

Am I the only one thats confused with that statement???:)

I agree that the kids should be considered. It's a pretty big job, one I doubt many are up to, to have a world that is basically heterosexual, and bring a child into it having to teach them that is all wrong, or at the least, it is ok not to be heterosexual. I don't care what two people want to do with their lives (adults)but when you get kids involved, I think you better think.

:applause2: Well said April, times are changing from when we were young, and people should stop trying to live in the past in this society. I've heard a lot of stories on the news about heterosexual men being sexually abusive to both young boys and girls, but I can't recall hearing any about a homosexual person harming children like that. There are more serious concerns that effect all of us in this world, we shouldn't have to delve into people's private lives and judge everything they're doing.

I agree QS, I can't stand the thought of it, so I stay clear from the topic usually. Kids have enough to deal with in the world, like someone mentioned about "straight" parents being abusive, and poor parents, let alone a kid growing up in that kind of confusion. I mean, when they are little, it won't be confusing, but if they are out in the world, which maybe Lesbian couples etc will eventually have schools or something to separate the kids, that is when, well, I just can't fathom it:(

But is it loving? I can use puppies for an example of what I mean. How many folks have experienced or seen someone take in a dog for a pet, most of us have. Is it for the dog? Or is it for selfish reasons like being lonely. I mean it can be both I know. For myself, even being heterosexual, I chose not to have children because I was such a gypsy, I wanted kids and a home, but I couldn't bring myself to have a child because I truly was thinking of what kind of home I might be able to give the child. I couldn't take the chance of having a child that would suffer. I know all children suffer, in some way or another, sooner or later, that's our world. I'm just saying.

I just want to add here, about the sue thing. Everyone is agreeing these people should sue, or some are at least. I mentioned a couple of weeks back about sueing because of botched healthcare and hardly got any attention to the thread/question. Funny how different things seem more important to people isn't it. My heart may never work right again, but hey, because a couple got the wrong sperm out of gillions, they want to sue. If I was them, I'd feel dang lucky to have a baby, black or not, they've already bit off a job I doubt is going to be any picnic, again, especially for the child.

Wai..wait... You aren't SERIOUSLY comparing a gay couple wanting a child to someone wanting a PET? Are you? No we don't agree at all nwlady.. I think it's great for a loving couple gay or straight to raise a child. I don't think it damages a child.. I think being raised by an abusive heterosexual family is worse.

The difference between ME and You saying gay sex is gross.. is that I don't JUDGE the gay couple, and wish them all the best..
