I have just watched 60 Minuites and I must admit .......I copied their description I have used as a heading ....
The story was about a tragic accident in Queesland , where a ute crashed into a cafe..full of people igniting large gas bottle which caused an explosion, Killing one lady, another has since passed away..Others still in a critical condition ..

The question was raised on 60 Minutes, of how nearby shopkeepers went into the burning building and pulled the lady out who has since passed away... Another man grabbed a garden hose to try to cool the other gas tank to prevent it causing a further explosion ........what would have you done ?? In the situation.....Would you hop in and help knowing there was a large gas bottle that could explode at any time..?

There was only one paramedic in the town at the time.... with several people badly burned to attend to

That's a tough question. I usually stop to help people in accidents or injured animals but I'd be trepidicious about possible explosions and would probably wait for the pros to arrive.
I would have offered my assistance to the one paramedic in attending to the burned and injured.

It is a hard question to answer as I don't think one knows until the situation presents itself...

I would have run away in another direction, no doubt, saying, "it wasn't me; all I wanted was a cup of coffee."

That's the kind of person I am.

I don't believe that to be true of you Drifter. You seem to be a much more solid person than just a runner.

An honest person! I've found him! Actually, Ralphy has it right. We can never know until it happens. I've heard stories where the most horrible individuals imaginable have performed heroic deeds in a sudden crisis. I'm a hero wanna' be, but I'm happy never to have had the opportunity.

There is an interesting ABC tv program "What Would You Do?", that I occasionaly watch. In this scenario I know what I would have done when I was younger.... Now..although, I echo Ralphy....afraid I would be a hindrence vs a help.

To be honest , I don't really know what I would do either , many helped by running and getting water to tip over people who were coming out of the burning building with their clothes either blown off or badly burned. Ravenshoe is only a small country town.. I don't think they have even had a chance to talk to the driver as I believe he is still in a coma ..
Others risked their lives trying to get him out of the wreaked ute ...right next to the " other" gas tank ( not petrol)

When you're dealing with something that could cause an explosion, it just makes sense to wait for the experts to arrive otherwise your good intentions could backfire and cause an even worse situation endangering both yourself and the lives of others. It's not a question of character really.
