Who Does It Better?

Easy choice for me Lara.

500x500.jpg

"Somewhere Over The Rainbow"

Israel "IZ" Kamkawiwo'ole...OR...Judy Garland...OR over 40 other singers

They left out Olivia Newton John.

Smokey and Izzy get my vote, hands down. One singer I really dislike is Michael Bolton, does terrible versions of classic songs. The 1st time I heard him sing,'White Christmas,""When a Man Loves a Woman' I cringed. His voice is terrible in my opinion Sue

My wife would definitely say "Smokey".
As far as "messing with classic songs", I really like the remakes of some Classic Rock songs, like:
You Really Got Me (the Kinks) and redone by Van Halen
Mony, Mony (Tommy James & The Shondels) redone by Billy Idol

ooooh finally, someone who agrees with me about Michael Bolton,:D I think he's an awful singer, I grab for the remote whenever he comes on and put him on mute...*ugh*...

Classic Rockr, thank you for those suggestions. I'll check them out. Would you like me to post the videos for you? Please feel free to post some if you want to.

I agree with with Smokey. And Izzy brings tears to my eyes so I choose him. But Judy Garland's voice is so clear and perfectly smooth with a depth like none other, not to mention classic so I'm somewhat surprised at the majority (or all) not choosing Judy Garland. I'm sure there are some traditionalists out there. Izzy's will be a classic too.

I found it amazing from the video that none of those great talented 40 singers had a voice to match Judy Garland's. Though, my favorites of those were Katherine MePhee, Ella Fitzgerald, Barbra Streisand, Pink, Ariana Grande, Doris Day, Martina McBride, and Olivia Newton John (who they omitted in the video).

I couldn't get enough from the clips of the others, but Ray Charles grabbed my attention right away.

Smokey hands down.

The Isley Brothers sued Michael Bolton for plagiarism. It was a long court pattle, but they won.

https://www.billboard.com/articles/news/78775/isley-feels-vindicated-in-bolton-case

According to appeals court documents, the Isleys are to be paid $4.2 million from Sony Music, $932,924 from Bolton, $220,785 from Goldmark, and the balance from Bolton and Goldmark's music publishing company.

More, more...please Lara.... :D I'm enjoying this..
Me too. Love everyone's comments. Okay Holly but everyone, please feel free to post some too if you think of any.

Who Does it Better?

"Sittin' By The Dock of The Bay"

Roger Ridley & Grandpa Elliot...OR...Otis Redding

RadishRose, regarding Izzy and the "Maui" demi-god in Moana...you are so observant! What a similarity!! I guess the demi-god was a good-guy character in the storyline. That would be a nice tribute to Izzy.

My 34 year old daughter picked Otis without hesitation and said "I've always loved Otis Redding". I thought Otis would've been before her time (he died 1967 and my daughter was born in 1984 but our generation's musicians are still all there with the younger generation.

I think it's nearly a tie though. Roger Ridley & Grandpa Elliot made my foot do some toe-tappin' and my heart do some smilin'...while Otis made me feel like I was really sittin' on the dock in the mornin' sun, watchin' the ships and tide rollin' in, and wastin' time restin' my bones...and I like his whistling added to the mix. Just all nice and relaxin' like :)

Oh this is tough. Otis has than soft, smooth voice, but Roger Ridley's was awesome! Grandpa was good too.

I have to say Ridley. His voice is amazing!

(PS- Lara, the demi-god Maui in the movie was like a "fresh kid" at first, but was a good guy.)
