Who invented the Internet? And why?

Who was the genius who came up with all of that?

The internet is such a crucial tool in our daily lives today that we hardly remember that it hasn't been here forever.

But yeah, it is actually not that old. We still have fuzzy memories about the time before the first thing in the morning was to check email and browse our favorite blogs and youtube channels.

Well, let's explore how the internet came into existence and why.

I am thankful for the internet. It has saved my life a few times. Well, google has. Meds. I look everything up before it goes in my face. I have caught so many doctor mistakes...I am lucky I am still breathing. And that goes for my pets too. Not counting the entertainment it provides.

A moment please! .a bit of technology history to clarify the Web origins.

the "internet" is a long history with many advances and inventions ....compression, DSP, packets, public key crypto, Ethernet, etc.

The basis of digital media was Homer Dudley's VOCODER voice synth and comp of 1930s USA BTL

Most of the digital signal processing stems from a 1942 top secret WWII speech scramble SIGSALY.

Our old friend (RIP) UK engineer and scientist Dr Don Davis at Harwell UK, invented packet switching 1965

Public key cryptology was invented in 1974 at Stanford U, USA by our friends Dr Whit Diffie and Dr Martin Hellman.
https://ee.stanford.edu/~hellman/publications/24.pdf

A USA wide area Ethernet packet switched net was ARPANET, 1976, for universités and researchers.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARPANET

The French/Swiss nuclear research CERN, had a network to communicate over the vast facility and link to nuclear sites worldwide. It was at CERN, in 1989, that Tim Berners-Lee is recognized to have "invented" the Web as we now know it.

The Internet Dinosaur: .
The Web and the Internet are two separate entities.

The Internet is the network that evolved out of ARPANET. Al Gore promoted legislation that funded an expansion of the ARPANET.

The Web, on the other hand, is a set of protocols used to communicate over the Internet. The Web, in effect, rides on top of the Internet.
