Then, in 1961 he committed suicide by gunshot 2 days after release from a clinic where he was treated for depression and and at least 2 suicide attempts. His wife told the press he was cleaning his gun and shot himself accidentally.

Seven of Hemingway’s close family relations died by suicide, including his father, sister, brother and much later his granddaughter, the supermodel Margaux Hemingway.
