Nara Dreamland Japan - When Disneyland in Anaheim, California opened in 1955, Kunizo Matsuo from Japan visited with Walt Disney about creating this as a franchise in Japan. The franchise cost dealings fell through. With most of the construction already done, Kunizo just took off Disney related items and rebranded it as Nara Dreamland. Although it already looked like a replica of Disneyland. Was opened in 1961.

When Tokyo Disneyland opened in 1983, this started the decline of Nara Dreamland. Closed in 2006 after years in bad repair and little usage. Original owner defaulted on taxes. Property reverted to city. Bought out in 2016. Eventually demolished in 2017. Before that it has been visited by people that explore abandoned places. (and of course graffiti artists)

The mysterious stone columns at Crowley Lake in California are a hidden gem worth exploring. These natural formations, located along Highway 395, resemble ancient temple structures with their cracked, cylindrical shapes.
Geologists have determined that the columns formed after a massive volcanic explosion around 760,000 years ago. This event created the Long Valley Caldera, where the columns now stand as remnants of that dramatic past.
Accessing the Crowley Lake columns requires a four-wheel-drive vehicle due to the challenging terrain. Despite the effort, the sight of these unique formations is a rewarding experience for adventurous visitors!

I love this story which I saw years ago. But here's the latest update.

It took 8 years for the authorities to put up a signage that they claim is their exclusive area of safety expertise.

I remember when this happened and I travel that route often. When Caltrans changed the sign, I think it was because they were replacing them all with a reflective, brighter tone of green so they could eliminate the lights, which they did. If they were not changing sign types, his work might still be up there."
