Who Knew? Some Fun Facts

Before she mastered the art of French cooking, Julia Child cooked up shark repellent while working for the precursor to the CIA as a covert operative during World War II.

Sharks kept unintentionally setting off underwater explosives meant for German U-boats — until Child came up with an inventive recipe that saved the day.

Fun fact:

If you thought she looked tall in this picture, she was 6'-2".

In the Netherlands, a metro train near Rotterdam overshot the end of its elevated tracks and crashed through a safety barrier. But instead of plunging into the water below, it was dramatically saved by a sculpture—a giant whale tail.

The artwork, fittingly titled “Saved by the Whale’s Tail,” had been installed at the train station in 2002. It unexpectedly became a literal lifesaver when the train came to rest on one of the raised fins, suspended about 10 meters in the air.

Amazingly, no one was injured. The driver, who was alone on the train at the time, walked away unharmed. Investigations later showed the train had been moving faster than allowed, which contributed to the accident.

In 1938, inventor J. Lehaitre introduced a fascinating innovation known as the Tractor-Cycle—a motorcycle equipped with a tractor-style transmission belt instead of conventional wheels. Designed to handle a wide range of terrain, this unique vehicle could travel at speeds of up to 25 mph.

Its rugged, tank-like track system gave it impressive off-road capabilities, making it suitable for military or rugged exploration purposes. In fact, it was even designed to accommodate a machine gun, suggesting potential military applications at the time.

Though it never became mainstream, the Tractor-Cycle remains an intriguing example of early 20th-century experimentation in all-terrain vehicle design.

I wondered how far you can go in an hour.

This draws huge crowds and you're only able to walk as fast as the crowd which has people stopping to pick up starfish and other things of interest.

A video I watched said an alarm goes off to tell you when to turn around and head back.
The alarm went off before they were able to make it to the next island (2.8 KM = 1.739839 Miles).
