Who Knew? Some Fun Facts

Piggly Wiggly, an American grocery store chain was founded 1916 in Memphis by Clarence Saunders . It pioneered the self-service supermarket model in the U.S. where customers selected goods themselves from shelves and paid at a central checkout, replacing the tedious process where clerks were given your shopping list and fetched the items. Also every item had its price clearly marked, which was not the standard practice at the time. This innovation cut costs, allowed lower prices, and became the template for modern supermarkets.
