So was Kiefer Sutherland and Charlie Chaplin. You can add Cary Grant to that list, as well as Angela Lansbury and Kim Cattrall.
everyone knows about Cary grant because unlike the others he barely lost his accentSo was Kiefer Sutherland and Charlie Chaplin. You can add Cary Grant to that list, as well as Angela Lansbury and Kim Cattrall.
having never watched sex and the city...I too wouldn't know Kim Cattrall if I bumped into her...Americans know about Bob Hope's English roots. Ditto Chaplin, Grant and Lansbury. I'd have guessed Kiefer to have been born in Canada, but {{shrug}}. No idea who Catrell was - had to look her up and realized I'd never seen her in anything.
The name Kim Cattrall came up when I searched for British born, famous celebrities, resident abroad. To be honest, I too didn't know the name and not wanting to repeat the kind of faux pas that I made recently, I included her thinking that she was famous.having never watched sex and the city...I too wouldn't know Kim Cattrall if I bumped into her...
Does that make him eligible to stand for election for POTUS?everyone knows about Cary grant because unlike the others he barely lost his accent
On the flip side, Our last Prime Minister Boris Johnston was born in New York USA... and they don't come more bumbling, archetypal English than him, do they ?
Don't worry...I'm similar when it comes to young celebrities, being like you without grandchildren to keep me updated ...The name Kim Cattrall came up when I searched for British born, famous celebrities, resident abroad. What faux pas? Not having children, means no young adult grandchildren. I'm out of touch with who is flavour of the month. At some function a while back, I think it might have been a charity gig, there were lots of young adults and the name Taylor Swift cropped up. Not a clue, and shame on me.
Back in the sixties, at the height of The Beatles fame, some bigwig, a politician maybe, or a high ranking church cleric famously said: "And who pray, are The Beatles?" I thought that remark was just so pompous, and here was I repeating history. What am I like?
The Gibb brothers were Australians, not British. An important distinction. Jimb.Someone may have brought this up, but the Brits had another more important influence on US entertainment and culture than Bob Hope, the so called “British Invasion“ of the 60’s. Much of the great music of that era originated in, and was inspired by, the Beatles to the BeeGees, and many other British sources. The British influence on American culture of that period, and beyond, was enormous.

The Brothers Gibb were Brits born on the Isle of Man to British parents, but Australia did play an important role in their musical career.
