Also, snow was a big party for us. Playing King of the Hill on piled up snow, and having snowball fights. Today kids barely even notice it.
I don't know about Wednesdays, but everything was closed on Sunday around my town when I was small. You might be able to find a drugstore open somewhere within 10 miles, but that would be it.
Same here.. but wednesdays' was always a half day for everywhere... except little corner shops owned by Immigrants...altho' even those couldn't open on Sundays. My late step father worked there for about 40 years.
In my day you could play for a nickel. Like you we used to play these while waiting for our parents...At the bowling alley where my father bowled and brought me on practice nights. Another dad brought his daughter and they gave us lots of coin to play.
