Who was the best TV detective?

Columbo for me, although the last couple of seasons weren't that great. There was just too much s#x and risqué nonsense going on for my liking.

Debra Morgan on Dexter. She was actually my favorite character on the whole series.

I forgot about her, and she was fun, but now that you bring it up Dexter, while he was not a detective, was the Miami police's go to guy in every investigation. Now the writers that came up with a job of blood splatter analysis technician really got creative on that one. He'd have strings leading from a corpse to hundred different splatters around the room, and he could tell the age, weight, and eye color of a perp just by the way the blood was splattered. They made a big issue out of "splatter." It couldn't be "pattern," because as everyone knows, any good murder involves blood flying in every direction.

I wonder if any police department in real life has a blood splatter guy?

I only love the detectives on PBS and the Knowledge Network. For example: George Gently, Lewis, Poirot, Endeavour, Inspector Grace, Scott & Bailey, etc. Also of course, Sherlock Holmes.

I loved the original Hawaii Five-0. The remake was good too, except they made Danno a major whiner. He was never happy, always complaining.
