Who's in your will? All about wills.

Well, we can't take it with us. So, who's in your will? Do you even have a will? If not, why? And let's get to the juicy part. Who is NOT in your will? And why?
I'm single. So my will is easy. I don't have much, all going to my younger brother. But making out a will in a mixed/blended family must be a real bear of a problem.
But I do have an ex-sister-in law. I'd gladly leave her all the used bandaids I can find.

My Will has to be changed since the death of my husband this past December. I have 3 children though and all of our assets and things will be distributed equally between them.

Same here but between my two children. A few personal items that the kids seem to like, and that is very few, is written also.
My husband and I have basically the same "terms" in our wills; when one of us dies the survivor gets all. Whatever is left at the end of that life is equally split between our 5 children.

Had an attorney make out my Will, POA, etc. 10 yrs ago. Also provided banking and life insurance information.

Who/what in people's Will is nobody's business, certainly not random strangers on some internet forum.

I have no will mostly because i have no family. And all but one of my friends are older than I...by a few, or several years.

My plan is.......when i get around to it.

Pay my younger friend a stipend ? to be my executor,... and mostly leave my estate to sick kids, [in a nut shell].

Leave a lesser portion to animal welfare here in my county.

I joke about it but...I really should get to it.......tick-toc.

To answer the poster's question...we don't have wills and probably won't. My husband's 2 adult children can take whatever they want....and they've said they don't want anything. My son will get nothing and I've made that clear to my step-children. He is not to be notified when I die. We're just average people. We don't have a lot so there's nothing to be left or fought over. They can do whatever they want with everything. We're not going to know it, anyway.

I don't have a will.

In some states, including Ohio a simple handwritten will is still acceptable if it is prepared and witnessed properly.

I would at least go that far to get your wishes down on paper.

No wills. Too many issues with those. We have revocable trusts. No probate, everything reverts to the remaining spouse immediately. We're totally covered with that and of course, POW, health POW, etc. And yes, we named family members leaving out a couple of "ex's".

I am saddened to read that so many of you don't have wills. It's relatively easy to draw up, on your own, get notarized, seal in an envelope with rubber ink pad stamps under scotch tape, and file where it will be found, or give it to an attorney for storage (you'll pay a bit, for that). If you don't give a hoot what happens to your possessions, after you're gone, I guess that's fine. If you want to help the underprivileged and/or abandoned pets, etc., put it in writing. Yeah, tic-toc, indeed!

I'll think about it.

I agree TG64. Sometimes things can get messy after a person dies.

Although I was accused of refusing to participate in the thread it can be seen in post #9 I clearly stated I have a Will and have taken care of estate matters.

And I still say the contents of people's Wills aren't anyone's business.

Yeah, we have wills
It was a freebee perk from the position I had before retiring

But

Heh

Some don’t

Here’s one now (from a poster I created in another life)

Every state has different requirements for what makes a valid will. What's good in one state isn't necessarily good in another. If a person is going to try doing their own will, they should carefully check their state's laws to see what is required for a valid will. My state is fairly persnickety about how a valid will is executed and what it must contain. If a will is found invalid, it just gets thrown out and it is the same as if you had died without a will. What you are describing probably wouldn't be valid here.

Both have wills. Changed boiler plate language from distribution of assets to surviving sons only. If one or more of our sons would precede us in death, the way it was written the heirs of our sons would have recieved whatever there portion would have been. Other than that stipulation pretty much the usual.

Family Trust. Husband was dying and we needed to get formal about it all. I’m the beneficiary, then our youngest, then the oldest. I’m sure once I’m gone, all hell will break.
