Who's the most famous person you've ever met?

In mid to late 70s, I went to Chicago once a year with my grandparents to a two or three game series at Wrigley Field to watch the cubs play. One time there was a meet/autograph day, before the game the players lined up on the field and we got photos of them and autographs. I don't remember if Billy Williams was still playing, but I know I got Dave Kingman and Bobby Mercer's autographs. Possibly Bill Buckner...

I met Tammy Wynette, country and western singer, at one of her performances years ago, if she counts as famous. She autographed a record album for me, and we shared a few words. She seemed very friendly and approachable, but I'm not so sure that description fit how she may have been in her later years.

I could list quite a few people but most of them have no idea who I am. Less than 50 miles from NYC we got all the political campaigns. We also had the ferries to Fire Island beaches, both gay and straight. I worked at a laboratory that attracted famous scientists from around the world. My husband headed a division of a health agency that used celebrities as speakers.

A NY disc jockey bought a small place near my house and had celebrities drop in and play a little something. I remember Roger Williams (Autumn Leaves) and Sal Mineo (drums while promoting the Gene Krupa Story ) I spilled a drink on Arnold Stang. (It was a stemmed martini glass and someone bumped into me).

The only one I knew well and have mentioned before is Troy Donahue. He was a Hollywood sensation in the early sixties.

I spent an evening with Amanda Blake (Miss Kitty) on an acquaintance's boat. I got to chat with Walter Matthau at a small gathering. There was a basketball star (I forget his name) who after winning a championship (NIT tournament) kissed all the girls and I was one.

I hope you are not as tired of all this name dropping as I am.

But Jamie Raskin would be a real thrill.

I never did meet them, but they were arriving at the Regent Theatre, Sydney for rehearsals, and had driven down the side lane at the theatre. They were Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbert. Those two very funny guys that played on, T.V. "The Two Ronnies". I was so thrilled. I wish now I had spoken to them.

well, Ronnie Barker was a very nice man.. very quiet, introverted.. but always time for his fans... RC was the opposite...

Juliet, yes definitely, Juliet.

She calls out, "Romeo, Romeo", every night, well Romeo isn't my name as you know, but in my dreams I climb that tree to her balcony, we kiss, then she finds her tweezers to get the wood splinters out of my fingers. 😊

Pat Paulson, Comedy, Actor, Presidential Canidate for 20 + years and on 'Smothers Bros' lots.
Mel Tillis. He played at a Club one evening after the Concert at the fairgrounds. He was quite the good ol boy!

Maybe not so famous, but I once did meet William Boyd - Hopalong Cassidy on his trip to Australia. He gave me a kiss on the cheek during his visit to the children's hospital where I was at the time. lol
Hoppy was my favorite Cowboy B&W growing up.

Art Garfunkel in the bar area of a local small CT town restaurant. He was teaching math at the local high school there and came in with some other people. The place was abuzz. I asked him for his autograph which he gave me but then I wished I hadn't asked for some reason.
I saw Simon and Art live at the RKO. Talked with the Female singer of Possum Trott Mary is her name near 20 years ago. Very nice person while playing golf.

This is probably somewhere back in the thread but I met Twiggy back in 2010. She was in her early 60s and was still beautiful. She was the godmother of one of our ships. I was asked to go chat with her at a cocktail party. I'd just seen a biography of her so I mentioned some funny anecdotes, like an interview she did with Woody Allen. The president of our company was a very "proper" Brit so you would have thought I'd spit on Twiggy's shoes! Instead, Twiggy laughed out loud and we instantly formed a connection. She acknowledged me every time she saw me aboard the ship. She was an elegant and absolutely delightful lady.

I also met Lorna Luft, Liza Minelli's half-sister, while greeting her before another ship inaugural. She was performing that particular night. She'd just flown from LA to Barcelona and her voice was rough. I said, "I'm excited to hear you perform tonight". She said, "No, it's tomorrow night". Unfortunately she was wrong and she gave an awful performance, but being the trooper she is she came to the shows every night and sat right in front.

The last were George Takei and Majel Roddenberry. I hosted a Star Trek charter aboard one of our ships in the late 80's and was asked to escort George and his mother to their cabins. Needless to say, he was very gracious. I was seated next to Majel at dinner. Her husband didn't attend but I picked her brain about everything Star Trek!

I have lots of great memories from my time in the cruise industry.

I'm in the UK and going forwards from late 60s/early 70s to date, I've met, grown up/worked/volunteered alongside a fair few 'recognised whoevers'.
I can't give names for various reasons but includes royals/ politicians as well as the lowly actors/singers/footballers etc. If I had a wish I'd love to meet and get to know Keanu, he really intrigues me. Seems such a lovely bloke. Too many carry the badge of 'Me myself I' where he's totally the opposite.

But, that aside, I've met some lovely recognisable names who I've really admired, who've given their time to help in some way - without fanfare or wanting recognition for their input.

Many over yonder might not know of my choice - Patrick Moore, the astronomer.
He's a once met, never forgotten type - lovely, blustery, totally nutty as a fruitcake and terribly eccentric who inspired many to take an interest in astronomy. Not being unkind, but his attire always reminded me of something Barry Humphries character, Sir Leslie Colin Patterson, might wear :giggle:

On April Fools Day 1976 he did....

The Great Gravity Hoax of 1976!

A longer, in depth video of him if anyone wanted to watch:

That sounds amazing! It sounds like a charmed life. I would have liked to have talked to Walter Matthau. You mentioned you worked in a lab. What did you do, if I may ask.

Wow! Sounds like you led a wonderful life!

I met this man when he was in college. He played football for UCLA, notable starting Quarterback.
Little did I know what he would become later.
It was a BBQ/pool party my husband's boss was hosting at his home.
Mark was a college buddy to the host's son. The college guys spent the day in the pool mostly, I was introduced to him on our arrival
and knew him from his write up in the sports section of the papers.
He was born the same year as I just 4 days apart. We were both 20 years old that meeting.
I have been a fan of his career in show business over the years and the role model of sticking to his beliefs that he is loyal to.
