Why Are Doctors Quitting? A Physician Weighs In

A lot of the doctors are babyboomers who are retiring. Younger doctors who are considering quitting, what's he or she going to do? They have to earn a living and a lot of them have to pay back student loans.
They become truck drivers. I am not kidding. My ex-trucker husband has met many "professionals" that turned to truck driving. Lawyers especially.

I'm having issues with low blood pressure, dizziness and a strange feeling in my chest. I went to the er and the doctor told me I was dehydrated. I was not. I got an appointment with my cardio doctor and he prescribed tests that I couldn't get an appointment for one month. Here I sit wondering what is wrong with me but have to wait for a month to be tested. So, so wrong.
I had some erratic heart palpitations....weakness, minor chest pain, etc., last year and had to go to the hospital for some tests. They put me on a minor prescription for a "beta blocker". They also recommended that I get a Pulse Oximeter, and check my O2 level and heartbeat if I feel any symptoms. This is a Cheap and Handy little device which anyone who suspects any heart issues should keep on hand and use frequently.

Oz calling Oz calling - I am privileged to be registered with a AHS -[Aboriginal Health Service] - they have a goodly collection of young enthusiastic doctors from the city who are reqd to do a stint in rural health. All my meds are free - and if I need to see a doc semi-urgently I can book an appointment for the same day or following and expect a 20 min wait period for attendance. I'm probably getting better service than some of our cities? My son who lives 2 hrs down the road but doesn't access an AHS despite being employed to teach Aboriginal students only ; has a harder time making his health appointments - the pendelum is swinging to the right! - we in oz followed the british system years ago and later declined to follow the usa model although we can belong to 'health orgs' pay an annual fee and get quicker service. We must be doing something better? litigation is still a dirty word over here

I'm not surprised at all. My partner went to med school at 50+ years old after leaving retail and received his accreditation to become a Medical Assistant. Due to the pandemic, he decided to go to work for a non-profit.

Health care workers were so under-appreciated during the pandemic. They frequently dealt with patient deaths and were berated by patients and their families who hadn't taken any precautions to avoid Covid.

I don't trust the healthcare system. My husband is having some issues and fortunately found a very good specialist. I just try to stay as healthy as possible. I eat well, low sugar, avoid all soybean and vegetable oils. I eat meat and saturated fats as well as monosaturated, but little to zero polyunsaturated fat. Do the opposite the government guidelines tell you. Don't eat low fat. Your body needs good quality animal and natural fats, like coconut and olive. Avoid refined sugar. Between the sugar and crap soybean oil in everything processed, your body is constantly inflamed. I run 3-4x a week, but I realized that is harder as you age. At least swim or walk. I have seen older folks reverse diabetes on a keto diet and take up running or walking. This is the best advice I can give as we are all stuck with modern medicine and my preference is to just avoid it if you can.

their caseload is what? thousands ...and get a few minutes with you. what will they learn....nothing...they just guess and move on. I have found them to be accomplished liars ... they are great at telling fibs...GREAT-

I once had a chinese doc from singapore - we got on well and I talked about my days in HK. his wife acted as his recptionist and bossed him about a bit! he was in those days not under pressure - I had left once after a visit and forgot something so quickly returned - there he was in the back carpark puffing on a fag!! - but docs once upon a time smoked whilst they were consulting their patients - watch the brits tv program " call the Midwife" you can see it in action!! times change

No problem. Soon we'll be able to get our health care through Amazon!

Amazon closed its acquisition of health care provider One Medical and its parent in a $3.9 billion deal on Wednesday, hours after the Federal Trade Commission said it would not challenge the purchase but that regulators were still investigating potential competitive and consumer harms of the transaction.

The landmark deal will turn the e-commerce giant into a provider of primary medical care with access to more than 200 brick-and-mortar doctors’ offices, along with roughly 815,000 One Medical members, according to that company’s latest financial statement.Washington, DC

hopefully this will turn out to be good. certainly what we have now is the s**ts- get 30 min with a "heath care provider" it is 29 min watching them trying to data entry and pick out the best guess most expensive pills to prescribe according to the directives on the laptop from their corporate and pharmacy overlord/employers ----so crap shoot most often, unless you have an arrow stuck in your head.....they have direction for that too. they have less typing on that though but double up on the pills. (with an enormous amount of side effects)
