I don't know if it's the same where you live, but around here, it's nigh on impossible to see anyone other than white people walking dogs..

It seems that every second household has a dog here. I just looked out of the window..there were 3 seprate dogs being walked past my house .. 2 single people.. and a couple.. .. and this is very common to see

I have never seen a Black, Indian or Asian person with a dog ...anyone have any clue why ?

I know that there used to be very strict rules in Hong Kong, pertaining to dog ownership. All dogs were to be muzzled outdoors. I don't know what the rules are now. There are many Asians here that have dogs, even in a lot of condos. Just take at look on Instagram.

I don't do intagram... but I mean not just my personal area but everywhere I've ever been in the uk. I mean go into Lodnon, you will barely see anyone other than white people walking dogs... for example..

...and certainly where I live there are NO dog owners who aren't white.. at least they're not walking their dogs if there are...

Just guessing. More likely to live in urban areas or more single parent households, meaning no one was home all day.

Possibly..... but here I live in an affluent area.. altho' tbf there are very few non-white people here.. but generally speaking , I could be anywhere in the UK..urban, rural , suburban, coastal.. and I will hardly ever see anyone other than white people walking dogs...

I just wonered why this is....

I’ve never thought about this so I googled it because there is an answer for everything on the Internet.

While percentage points very from article to article. It appears that white people do own the majority of the animals. I didn’t bother to read the entire articles to find out why, but I will say what I did read was pretty interesting.

About half of U.S. pet owners say their pets are as much a part of their family as a human member.
yep of course that link is America centric..and know for sure that the percentage of non-white dog owners are even much lower here in the UK

I should have looked for a more worldwide report but it’s early, my excedrin hadn’t kicked in, and it was the first one I landed on that seemed credible🤠🤠

It would be great if others provided credible articles- blogs don’t count🤠🤠

I will say the very nice lady at the city animal control in my county is a neatly dressed, well spoken Black Lady. She comes across as not needing the job, rather as someone trying to make a difference.

We have a very mixed area here, and almost everyone has a dog, or multiple dogs. I do not think that it is that any specific people have more dogs, it is going to depend on where you live and what races of people are in that particular area.
well according to that link above by @Imogene , in America at least , the vast majority of dog owners are white....

..and I know from personal observation here in the UK.. the overwhelming majority of dog owners are white...

Okay, the AI analysis on this *truly* surprises me... but this is what was reported:

AI Overview
In the United States, White and Hispanic adults are more likely to own pets than Black and Asian adults:

White: 68% of White adults own a pet
Hispanic: 66% of Hispanic adults own a pet
Black: 34% of Black adults own a pet

Asian: 37% of Asian adults own a pet
Dog ownership has historically been racialized as white in American society. In 2005 and 2008, white people were roughly twice as likely to own a dog as African Americans.

Some say that the differences in pet ownership rates by race are due to where people live. Caucasian and Hispanic people are more likely to live in suburban and rural areas, where they may have more space for pets. Asian and African American people tend to live in smaller urban residences.

Here we have very few Hispanics... so I can't include those... and the Asians and Black people who own or at least...walk.. because maybe they have dogs but don't walk them as much as others.. but the percentage here of those non-white owners are much lower than 37 %...that would mean 1 in 4 dog owners is non-white and that is just simply not the case here.. ..in fact where I live people walk their dogs all day every day from the time it gets light up until well after dark.. I have never seen one non-white person walking a dog here..

they done a survey here in Wales, and it seems Black and asian people dont like dogs,so they are thinking of makeing dog free areas so as the minorities dont have to worry about dogs.

It is a story which has grabbed the attention of a particular section of the press, and then snowballed on social media - a claim that dogs were to be banned from section of Welsh countryside because of racism.

It was variously reported as "Our colonial guilt is now so absurd we are branding dogs racist" (The Telegraph), "Dog-free zones needed in countryside to tackle racism, Welsh government told" (LBC), and "Drive to ban 'racist' dogs from the Welsh countryside" (Mail Online), although that had been corrected after an earlier version claimed dogs had already been banned.

You don't have to tell me pets are expensive being a family of dog owners..but I'm only talking about dogs..no other pets...
Yes, we can't know about cats who stay home, like mine do. But somehow, I feel the statistics might be the same for them. I'd really like to know the full answer to your question!

We may have to do interviews! "Excuse me, sir/ma'am, could you please tell me why you don't have a dog" (or pet)??

astonishing, but now in the UK as it has become recently ..I can't say I'm surprised...

Great. Now I’m going to look at the faces of folks walking dogs by my home. Lol. Good topic HD, one that never entered into my thoughts.

Because of their affluence. This brings with it vulnerability. White people in general are better off and insecure and sometimes friendless. A dog is perfect for them. Other cultures that aren't as well off are more self-sufficient feeling in themselves. They HAVE to deal with hard stuff a lot. They don't need the dog to protect them.?
