Why Can't Men Wear Dresses?

Mike 5.jpg

We don't call it a skirt, though it is a skirt, the Scottish Regiments at war
were called, The Ladies from Hell!

Quite a mix-up, for normal people to understand.

Mike.

this is me in a dress... it's rare but it happens occasionally..

That is so pretty.

What we wear is incredibly important, it is our identity and speaks volumes about us. Being aware of that is vital.

I wear very neutral clothes, sensible, according to the weather, comfort.
This is who I am at this stage of my life. Gone are dresses, stiletto heels, bright colours. Clothes speak for you.
The scantily clad woman wants attention, the old lady in black is mourning etc.

So a man in a dress is saying something - what would that be?

Society and social media, for the most part, have set the current standards for people when it comes to dressing ourselves up. The rule we are inclined to believe is that even something as simple as clothes should be sorted out by our gender if you want to fit in with the “right” standards set by modern times.

However, there are always people who go against said stereotypes by keeping their outlook in life open and free as they go out of their way to experiment with their looks and clothes, expressing themselves without looking to fit in the with current “norm” and by just being who they want to be regardless of society’s opinion on them.

You could take stereotyping one stage further.
Why can't men wear make-up?
Actually it's very common now for men to wear make-up... not just goth make-up but regular foundation, and eye liner... this is fact..guys in business suits in the city are wearing foundation and have been for a long time now..

yes in an ideal world that would be the case, but unfortunately we're very far from living in an ideal world
It does not matter if we live in an "ideal world" everyone's view of ideal is different. What does that matter? Do what you want.

I understand your ??? but it is just not the norm in our society, women in pants are considered the "norm" but at one time it was not. It is like wearing a mask during covid ,it took some getting used to seeing people in masks now I am use to it KWIM. I hope men never wear dresses, seeing a man in a dress is like seeing dogs in clothes it just is not the norm just my opinion.

If a guy is wearing a little pink number with lots of lace and a huge bow on his butt, that isn't going to fly. Yeah, in many Arab nations men wear long dress like clothes. I don't know what you call them. It depends on whether you are dressing as a male, or if one is dressing to imitate the dress of women, that counts.

HD, you are a beautiful woman! Your yellow dress makes me think of the first dress I wore to kindergarten. It was yellow like that and had frilly layers sort of like the pink dress you posted (not quite as frilly though). I seem to remember some gasps when I walked in.

Re OP: Well obviously from these photos, men DO wear dresses. I'd want my man to wear pants though (if I ever had one again).

thank you very much Diva.. very kind compliment on my looks..🥰.not sure tho' if you meant the dress should only be worn if I was 5 .....:sneaky::LOL:

Let it be.
Each to their own, but not for me.

I grew up in an era where women most often wore dresses and skirts including my mom and all her neighborhood gal friends, far more often than in this era. In K12 schools, all girls wore dresses or skirts except during phys ed classes. As a male strongly attracted to female bodies, I'm hopelessly, wonderfully drawn to looking at females in respectable everyday public situations. Although I love female faces most, women with beautiful, smooth, soft, athletic legs below skirts have always been especially attractive to this male's heart.

On the other hand thankfully, about the only time I've ever seen men in dresses is in little news headline images and really don't want to see anything beyond that haha. I do vaguely recall as an 18 year old GI on a weekend visit to the New Orleans French Quarter (Louisiana drinking age for hard liquor was 18.) as a surprise, seeing a drunk guy in a dress walking down a street yelling about something.
