Why do they hate Baby Boomers?

WOW how is it that only American baby boomers are responsibe for all the "bad".

I thought we live in a world full of people that differ, and as part of the world population we adapted to changing circumstances. Instead of complaining why not use their talent and ability to change what they complain about? Unless they just complain & don't have the talent & ability to make changes.

Every generation wants to change the world. Some things do get better, and some things get worse. Lot of it is a matter of opinion. Everybody wants something, but they're not always sure what and how to do it.

I take issue with the blanket criticisms of millennials; my children are millennials and they are great people... responsible, kind, and intelligent. They are tech-savvy but not dependent upon it; they live productive lives with their careers and families.

They give me hope for the future but since I won't be here to experience it, I don't waste my time worrying about things I can't control.

Well, so far in this thread, I've only read second hand reports that this is true that that is being said. I personally would appreciate links so I can see for myself.

What evidence to you have that they aren't doing that? And how is it any better to generalize about a younger generation than what you think they are generalizing about an older generation?

"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers."
Socrates (469–399 B.C.)

Timeless. The old folks kvetching about the young and vice-versa. Yet we humans persist and somehow manage to carry on.

Who are "they"? If there's anything that drives me right around the bend, it's sweeping generalizations.

I was born toward the end of the Silent Generation, the "children-should-be-seen-and-not-heard" generation born between 1925 and 1945. According to Boomers, WE caused all the problems in the world.

This thread reminds me of so many in the military, who despise their current duty station; their last duty station was the best...except that while they were there, they despised it and the one before that was the best.

Pepper's quote says it all:
"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers."

Some things simply don't change. Each generation blames the one before theirs for the ailments of the world and the wrongs they feel have been done to them. It has ever been thus.

Every generation is "The Greatest Generation", regardless what Tom Brokaw says. Every generation has its dreams and nightmares, its likes and dislikes, its brilliant moments and its silly fads. Each generation is a continuation of the human experience- no more and no less.

Every generation has gotten both worse and better depending on what topic referred to...all the way back to Adam and Eve being responsible for Sin. Fast forward to the technology generation...you may be enjoying the "information highway" but we've totally lost our privacy, and high-tech capabilities could eventually destroy the world. The boomer generation just landed in between them.

My dad used to tell us to always leave a place in better shape than you found it. He encouraged us to pick up other people's litter when we were leaving a camp site as well as attending to our own rubbish. I have taken this on board and extended it to other spheres.

The answer to younger people who complain about the state of the world might be to apply the same thinking. Perhaps ask them what they intend to do to make the world a better place and encourage them to get on with it. Stand with them, not against them, when they are doing positive things in that regard.
