Why Do We Need to Sleep?

Sleeping allows our brain to defrag. I also read how the blood vessels and arteries in our brain, which are like little alleys during the day, become four lane highways, during sleep, allowing the toxins to be cleaned out.

"One of the things they monitored was cerebrospinal fluid, or CSF, the liquid that flows through the brain and spinal cord"

"And that's when we discovered that during sleep, there are these really large, slow waves occurring maybe once every 20 seconds of CSF washing into the brain," Lewis says.

"These waves were a bit like the oscillations of a very slow washing machine".

...Bring it on!🥱💤

Sleep is an essential function that allows your body and mind to recharge, leaving you refreshed and alert when you wake up. Healthy sleep also helps the body remain healthy and stave off diseases. Without enough sleep the brain cannot function properly, this can impair your ability to concentrate, think clearly, and process memories.

That's the science of sleep, the reality is that new parents are basically part of a scientific experiment to prove that sleep is not a part of human life.

If you want to be sure of a good night's rest, snore or fart in the bed. You will soon be sleeping on your own.

Of course, you could be a dog, you know that saying, always let a sleeping dog................................

I went without sleep for three days once

The 2nd day.....not too bad....a bit ethereal in places......then giddy.......then grumpy.....

That third say? Whoa.......tried working...nada....total confusion
Coffee just made me excitedly exhausted
Never made it to bed
Just slept in a corner somewhere
Never woke 'til late the next day....probably

How long can you go without sleep?
I gave it a try, since I couldn't sleep. So I got up and tried to stay awake as long as I could.

I went from 12 midnight, woke up and couldn't sleep. So I stayed awake till 2 am the next day and couldn't function, but I had a good sleep.

There was a disc jockey night show and he determine to not sleep as long as he could.
It got to the point where you could not understand one word he was saying.

So sleep is essential.
We sleep more when we are ill, which might indicate that the body is helping itself to heal.
The people that seem to sleep the best are those that are resigned to it instead of fighting it.

If you are a working man and you work 8 hours a day.
Then driving to and from work another hour each way.
Then you sleep 8 hours a night (if you are lucky)
You eat three meals a day so another 3 hours.
So 8+2+8+3=21
You have exactly 3 hours to yourself.
Thank god for weekends.

It does seem like a waste. We lie in bed for a long time, without doing anything. I'm not real sure on what sleep does, but there's nothing like waking up after a good night's sleep. Plus, with sleep, you dream. Where else can you be the star of your own epic movie?

I've begun to think that it allows my wife time away from me. Sadly, I don't often sleep well-- and she mostly pays the consequence.

I wonder what biological processes take place while we sleep. Just think if we could harness it or supercharge it. Could it be the key to aging?

Sleep is our friend, we shouldn't fight it.
Got that so right

I posted this awhile back, and highly recommend it;

I wake
Get up

No set time
whenever

then

I have what I call 'the 2nd sleep'

It rocks so hard, I seldom miss it

Whenever I get up, (of which is usually abnormally early)
I make coffee
Get on the web (here alot)
Fuss a bit with the budget
Do some writing (I'm a word butcher)

get re-sleepy

then

stumble back to bed.....sweet beddy bye

It's the only sleep that comes calling with complete consciousness
softly drifting...drifting into sweet sweet slumber
snort myself awake.....open one eye.....turn the pillow
drift back....waaaay back

......drooling a river

I highly recommend it

Wait.....

here it comes again

lay-Z-boy is tilted back

I've been fed

lights are off

TV is on (who cares)

I have no idea what it means to sleep. My mind works harder when I am trying to sleep. I don't think in the last 15yrs I have slept more than 20 minutes straight without waking up and trying to fall back to sleep. it's funny because I told my Doctor yesterday about my problems sleeping and she told me to try Melatonin. I'm going to try it tonight.
