because in my life it's done so much and I hope it continues to. I hear some here don't want to hear about it, so as I see it, their loss for some prevention of some terrible issues Grape Seed Ex can be working. Like dreaded cancers, alzheimers/dementia and loads of less but still horrible health issues.

Dementia etc.

There are many more links but here are a couple.

Hearing a segment on NPR last night and it was coming from The Lantern in Ohio which is a home for those in advanced alzheimers and so so sad and if only this info were known out there and used maybe we would NOT be in the epidemic we are today.

I hear of other things to help prevent this memory loss issue conditions, like coconut oil and other things but the Amyloid Plaque and Grape Seed Extract (not grape seed oil) is what stands out to me.

On the cancer issues, Pycnogenol was what I got on first as we were told MAY prevent cancers, that was in 1995, and then in time I went to Grape Seed Extract as it does about the same. There are many many info sites on these antioxidants and cancers.

And as we all know, one can ignore anyone's info if they choose to.

Keesha, you told me to do a separate post so here it is....so I'm gone for a while. Thanks.

And all the pharma drugs are prescribed after the health issue has hit many.,..then it's too late.

I preach Prevention...

My mom could not wait for her Prevention magazine to arrive each month way back, so I learned so much of who I am from my first teacher.

Oh! In that case my apologies.

I think a separate thread is great. That way people who are interested can come to you instead of you following others around preaching to them.
The thread idea is ‘in place of’ NOT ‘as well as.’

Thank you jamin’ :flowers:

How does grape seed oil compare to Oil of Oregano?
When you take your grape seed oil do you have to take extra probiotics?
While taking most supplements that have an antibacterial , antifungal , antibiotic effect, I find I have to increase my probiotics or I get infections elsewhere.

You preach prevention?......Who can prevent growing old? And it is next to impossible to prevent genetic disorders/weaknesses . You preach prevention, yet you needed & have had a hip replaced, you have noted other ailments as well.....so what have you prevented ??

I don't take grape seed oil, I have used it for cooking and salads some yrs back but don't anymore.

Grape Seed is from the Grape, Oregano is from Oregano.

Starting out I would start with 100mg and then go to a couple a day.

One has to take enough for their bodyweight and even though I don't weigh 400 lbs, I take most days 200mg a couple times a day. This antioxidant cleans and thins the blood, so if one is taking a pharma blood thinner then can't take both....

I don't know if one can take too many antioxidants. I do fine with this one and Vit C daily.

If it were not for the unstable body from surgery, I'd be out dancing at almost 81.

Oh goodness, we all grow old..it's all part of life.

The hip surgery was a botched surgery and I pay every day going on 9 yrs. So much damage including major nerve damage, IT band damage, shorter leg, which mess up my knee....our bodies are not supposed to be cut on..

I danced and exercised all my life and for me it's all wear and tear...and this is TRUE for most who end up with OA, my first encounter was at 18, and I was tap dancing at 12 and loved loved loved to dance.

Now had I sat around and not done what I did would I still deal with OA, don't know. But some much sugar and carbs I believe played a huge role in it all.

Plus mother and her sisters all had OA.

I can't undo what I've done with my life and the outcome. But thank goodness I had fun all those years...it's wear and tear and it goes on and on and on. Even my grandkids are having pains as they are athletic and move a lot of their body. Then look at all the sports nuts and runners etc etc etc,

What did you do to end up with the OA you talk about.

Did I answer enough rgp?

Jam asked..........

"What did you do to end up with the OA you talk about."

I lived my life.

"They"..tell us to exercise to "prevent". Yet my letter carrier [40ish young lady] told me she is leaving my route because.......her doc told her that she is done walking [avg 11 miles p/day] . Her knees are worn out.

So all this exercise, [involved in her job] did more harm than good?....She says maybe.......her brother [also a letter carrier] and older is fine. But their mother had OA.....'I suspect I got the gene from her....and he did not'.

Walking wounded are everywhere from doing their lives. My mom scrubbed on her knees and did some walking but she had horrible OA, I'm saying here to genetics as her sisters all had OA and baked tons of sugary stuff all their lives.

Our postwoman is off on disability I believe now as her knee was getting worse and worse and I was talking to her a couple weeks ago and she showed me all the dirt and scratches from a fall she just had. She is trying to hold on to her job to support her family, her husband is on disability from his issues. Who escapes???

Maybe this is where robots are needed to carry all that heavy junk mail and this junk mail polluted society, the more people the more junk, the more jobs needed, a vicious cycle of this life.

I meant grape seed extract and I do understand it’s made from grapes and oregano oil is made from oregano.

What I was asking is how these two supplements differ. Since I knew nothing about grape seed extract I thought I’d ask you but I looked it up. It has a lot of positive potential benefits but it also has some serious side effects

It increases collagen production
Reduces Edema
Reduces iron levels which could be problematic fir some
Reduces inflammation
Adds like a anticoagulant or blood thinner
Increases estrogen
Improves night vision
Helps diabetic retinopathy
Helps with cognitive loss or Alzheimer’s disease
Packed with antioxidants
Helps treat blood pressure
May prevent cancer
Treats Candida
Improves bone strength
Helps heal wounds
Treats high cholesterol
Mascular degeneration
May help treat heart disease

Side effects

Headache
Sore throat
Dizziness
Itchy scalp
Stomach ache
Nausea
severe renal damage

Grape Seed Extract is an antioxidant and has anti viral, anti fungal and anti bacterial properties. And I take it always in capsule form.

Oregano and I have a tincture and use it on say a tooth that may have an ache or a gum area that may be bothering me. I bought some capsules and have really never used them as one is not supposed to take them ongoing. If my knee is hurting more than normal I may rub some OOO on the knee with hopes of it helping with pain.

As for the possible side effects on the above that you posted, I've never had a one in the 25 yrs of taking Grape Seed Ex.

I like this company's overview on Grape Seed Extract although I've never purchased their product but I'm sure it's a high quality.

I tried to get my sister to take Grape Seed Ex as an adjunct to her meds but she never would stray from the mainline drugs except for Vit D3.

read this in one of the links too....

[FONT=Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]One general caution is, due to the possible action of proanthocyanidins in grape seed extract on limiting platelet adhesion, grape seed extract may behave like a blood-thinner, increasing clotting time. Grape seed extract may possibly interact with Anticoagulants (blood thinners), even though some other experts argue that grape seed extract is not blood thinners and does not compete with them. In any case and as a precaution, if you take blood thinning medications or have bleeding disorders, ask your doctor before taking grape seed extract.[/FONT]

I use oregano oil quite a bit but I have to increase my probiotics due to the fact that’s its antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral. It can act like an antibiotic and the only thing about that is that it has the ability to kill off healthy gut bacteria as well as unhealthy bacteria. A good balance of gut bacteria is what creates our immune system so even taking something that has a list of potential of positive healing effects has the ability to drastically change ones health for the worse in some cases. Too much good bacteria getting killed off too quickly can throw the equilibrium of this fine balance off, for people who dont understand this and our immune system is what protects us. This can be corrected by taking probiotics to replace all the healthy gut bacteria. Most people wouldn’t consider this and it could potentially harm older people whose immune systems are already compromised. Treeguy s sister would have been one such person, in my opinion, since her immune system was already compromised so giving out information, like it has the exact same healthy benefits for everyone is misleading and could be dangerous for some.

That’s a shame but she is exercising her right to treat her body however she feels. I DO understand your frustration of wishing to help others, especially since it’s worked so well for you but we are all so intrinsically different. What may work wonders for you might be disasterous for others, especially if they are old with compromised immune systems, which most old people have.
You started this 25 years ago. Your immune system has had plenty of time time to adjust to this. Some of the people you were after to help change their ways, might not have been as successful.

Thank you for the link and information. I will get some today and try it.
The side effect that most concerns me is the dizziness, nausea and stomach upset. Many things upset my stomach that don’t to others so I will experiment and see.

One can’t take too many antioxidants. That part is right. The only problem with this particular antioxidant is that it is anti viral, antibacterial and antifungal and acts like an antibiotic and as such has the ability to throw our delicate balance of bacteria off and potentially harm our immune system.

I have never used grape seed in any form; but as far as I know, it is supposed to be a good thing, and I think that it is only natural to want to share something that has helped us a lot.
I know that we all see people who are suffering from some kind of pain or disability, and we want to share with them, whatever has worked for us. The other side to that, is that we are all different, and would do different things to take care of ourselves.

Since I had the heart problems, I started learning about anti-inflammatory foods, and inflammatory foods. We all know that inflammation causes pain, but often still eat foods that cause inflammation.
I have found that I feel much better when I stay away from the foods that cause inflammation, or at least limit the amount and how often I eat them.

I do not think that anyone should feel like they are being pressured to change their style of eating , or living, just because someone shares what has helped them to live a better life. It is something that we all do because we care about other people, and want them to feel better and live a better life.
