Why is everything so hard to open?

I use one of those grip pads or a nutcracker for most things, but then I thought surely there must be something more complicated and expensive! $69.00. You can probably find classes on how to use it.

Just a thought. Have you tried sitting them inside a large pot. corning ware etc when opening.
That way whatever spills is contained in your cooker.

Pill bottles. Funny how kids have no trouble opening child proof caps. :D
I know just what you mean. There have been a few times I had to pop off a pill lid with a screwdriver.
In our house I always had to open the husbands pills.

Some pharmacies will give you the old style caps if you ask.
Im bad. I just dont put the lids back on once I get them off.
Well even some of the over the counter pills are a pain to get open.

My As Seen on TV battery operated device lasted for years and opened the toughest of tops. They don’t seem to make them anymore.

I have a selection of devices to open bottles and jars.

A few times I have gotten pissed at child proof caps and went medieval on them twisting them violently back and forth forcing them open. This breaks the child proof mechanism, but be warned sometimes the caps won't screw on anymore. It helps a lot during this process if you use colorful and descriptive language ;)

I find colorful and descriptive language is very useful for all types of mechanical operations that won't cooperate(y)

I buy these little four packs of soup from Campbell’s and boy are they dangerous to open!!!

They have a very sharp metal pop top and the container is filled to the brim, I end up making a mess about 3 out of every four containers but I hate to give it up.

The same with these little fruit snack cups, very difficult to open without making a mess but I still buy them.

I guess I’m just a slow learner! šŸ˜‰šŸ¤šŸ˜‚

YES! Those fruit snack cups! I can see why these things come back unopened in a child’s lunch. I end up putting them in a small bowl and stabbing the top just for personal satisfaction.

I still have couple in the refrigerator that I stare at every day. The apple sauce snacks are a little better - they have a foil top with a much bigger lip to grab hold of.

Small necked bottles often have an inner seal that a paring knife will cut out a hole the size of the neck. But some have thin plastic seal with a flap laying on its side. You lift the tab to a vertical position which is attached to the center of the seal, and you can get some leverage to peel the seal off. It depends on the product if it works. With some, it works perfectly all the time.

Some products have seals that are so tight that the tab simply separates itself from the seal and then you have to get the paring knife. When that happens, I usually find that every bottle from that particular product absolutely fails the same way every time. Do the people who sell these products ever buy them and take them home? Do they even know their system is useless?

What a relief to read all of these posts.

I have all of those problems and thought it was because I am ancient and have nerve damage and other hand problems.
I use my old pliers a lot and one of those old fashioned openers with the pointy tip at one end. It is good for prying of those metal tops.
The worst thing for me is separating a band aid from it protective strips.
I used to have problems with opening those new fangled bandaids, too, until l caught on.

.....care to share:D
Oh, l thought you had caught on, too. Look at the top ends of the bandage holder. One end will be similar to a zip lock bag where
you can open it by pulling it open with a fiinger nail, You can do the same thingv with with one end of the bandage holder. Then just peel it all the way open.

Ah yes that is how I do it too but I have nerve damage and fingertips don't always 'feel'
and missing thumb on my right hand.
I thought perhaps you had found another secret magic way:ROFLMAO:

I don't have difficulty opening pill containers .. so far.

There are those easy to open pill organizers that look practical.

Yes, but what about the pill containers from the pharmacy that the pills originally come in? Why do they put pills for elderly patients in child-
proof bottles with impossible-to-open caps? I finally got them to add to my record that I don't want or need child-proof bottles!

Why?

Tamper proof pkg
Can't remove product form pkg inside store to deter theft
Cans so thin they deflect making opening difficult
Avoiding death/injury/lawsuits from kids overdosing
Cans/pkg so small they can't be gripped
Jars packed under high vacuum
loss of dexterity
loss of strength
loss of sensitivity
