Why is so many people dying young?

Todays generation of folk are lazy, couple that with sedentary lifestyles, poor diets (todays selection of foods rich in sugar and junk), and you have the makings for early departures.

People don't work anywhere near as hard as past generations did, hence peoples figures and builds today compared to yesteryear.

It all adds up to the grim numbers we're seeing.

While this Corona Virus has certainly caused a spike in deaths, the overall trend may start moving higher. Among younger people, accidents and drug overdoses...and even suicide...are becoming a leading cause. Lifestyle choices....poor diet and obesity, are increasing factors. Just observe the people around you, and you can quickly see that half or more are substantially overweight. This can lead to an increase in diabetes, etc. Fewer people are getting any real exercise...many spend far too much time laying in front of the tv instead of doing any physical activity. The types of jobs available are changing fairly rapidly....things like manufacturing are either being taken over by automation, or going to China. That puts more people into office type jobs, where they spend countless hours just sitting.

There's a classic demonstration of that Marg. I'm no royalist, but I would suggest you look at at how The Queen has enjoyed longevity. It's easy to say that she is privileged, wealthy and has her own medical team, but so too did her sister, Princess Margaret. The Queen is renowned for her self discipline, her work ethic and her frugality. Her sister was anything but. Louche, lazy and self indulgent. Margaret died as the result of a serious stroke, aged 71. My bet is that The Queen makes it to her century, although, the loss of her husband might be the catalyst for her own demise.

Your assessment is spot on, sedentary lifestyles, poor diet and no motivation, a classic recipe for an early appointment with St Peter. The demands on couples today, we are told, forces both of them to work just to keep their heads above water, meaning that they are too tired to cook when they get home. It's just too easy to get a takeaway, so that's what many of them do.

My mother died aged 33, leaving Dad with four children to raise. He didn't shirk his duty, he worked, he cooked, he did everything that had to be done, he kept us from being taken into care, and subsequent adoption. He was no saint and lost his temper from time to time, but there was never any physical admonishment, not even the threat of it. My siblings and I are very proud of Dad. He was reunited with his wife twelve years ago, he died aged 92.

I don't think parents help the longevity of their children when they give them a lot of stuff rather than have them learn to work and earn it. Add in the impact of alcohol, drugs, indolence, lack of self control, diminished education, poor values, etc. and you have a recipe for morbidity.

Keep in mind that the natural result of life is death..

The totals are influenced by, preventable, personal choices, in many cases;
Stupidity (ie, recreational drug use, even though some may be legal),
driving poorly; too fast and/or under drug/alcohol influence,
tobacco use,
immoderate consumption (obesity)
Ignoring common sense preventative measures for covid and its variants is relatively new, even though Flu has historically taken a huge tole.
...can all be expected to limit longevity/carry their own rewards.

Freedom of choice has consequences for the unwise... as it should; Its a shame that others are often affected.

Enjoy!

I really like Lustig's videos on YouTube (I usually fall asleep listening to them), he talks very kindly (ok his style is not really 'kind' but he doesn't blame) about the current obesity problem. He says it doesn't help to blame obesity on eating too much and exercising too little, the real help is to fix the reason that happens. He says our brains don't recognize sugar as having eaten, that the hormone that our brains use to know when we've eaten enough doesn't get created by digesting sugar, and so our brains tell us to NOT exercise and to keep eating because our brains think we didn't eat enough.
It is very interesting and from my personal experience I would agree because about 15 yrs ago I was obese and I was always hungry, I can remember packing a sandwich just to drive to a city an hour away!
I didn't know about the effects of sugar but luckily I joined weight watchers so must have decreased it by following their plan.
Now that I know about the effect of sugar I am working on having as little as possible in my diet.
I searched for death rate info on young people and it seems a bunch are probably dying from covid without it being recognized, but that their major reasons for dying are drug overdose, traffic accidents, suicide and the normal bunch of young people stuff (I was young once, it is amazing we survive).
