Why Is The British Royal Family The Only Royal Family Always In The Headlines?

No offense meant to anyone here British. There are other countries that have kings and queens, yet we seldom see anything written about those royals.

Other royal families just seem to go about their day to day business with nary a mention, and yet we hear reports about the size of King Charles's sausage fingers or that Camilla likes beans on toast.

Why? Even before the Harry & Meghan drama there has always been this interest. Why?

It's because they're British and in a sense, so are we, the Americans & Canadians. Our national heritage comes from Britain. Common language too. Americans aren't supposed to be idolizing British Monarchy at all but we have worse problems than that now. Personally, I blame The Beatles and the British Invasion of music. Blame is not the right word.

Historian says Beatles were just capitalists, and not youth heroes | The Beatles | The Guardian

They're the Big Whoop. They're the monarchy that topped the British Empire when it ruled a big part of the world. They're like the pyramids only they're alive.
Well that's the best explanation lol... but it's correct. Our Royal Family are the Big Cheese... and in many ways it's pretty much like why do we only ever hear about the American President.. lots of other leaders around the world in the same type of job....

They are always in the Papers, because lots of people like to
read about them and to know what they are doing or going
to for a holiday, what they are wearing, the women of course,
take all of the above and more, such as scandal and you will
realise that they, the Royal family sells papers and magazines.

While there is a Royal family, you will always read about them
in your newspapers, even in Germany, when the Queen went
on an official State visit, she was referred to in the press as,
"Das Queen", The Queen, not the Queen of Great Britain and
the Commonwealth, so they are read about in Europe too.

Whoa there! Those are fighting words! I do hope you are kidding. :) I'm 100% American, but the Beatles are my all time favorite band. Some of my ancestors were British. I love the British music invasion. I have been watching British television on PBS for over 50 years! My favorite album for 56 straight years has been Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The Royal Family? I have never had a strong opinion of them either way. But they are the only royal family that will catch my attention on TV, internet, ot newspapers.

Don't worry @Paladin1950
Total Beatlemaniac here, from the get go! In fact, I have made a coma list of music for my son to play if I'm ever in a coma and the Beatles top the list. I love them with all my heart & soul! Yeah, yeah, yeah.

I believe the reason well are deluged with "news items" about the Royal Family is the British tabloid press. Its main goal is to sell papers, and facts are not essential to that goal. There's nameless "palace insiders", who crank out stories of supposed petty squabbles in banner headlines, as if the stories actually mattered, or were factually true. The more royal drama, the higher tabloid profit.

In reality probably because the British Royal family ruled the Commonwealth.. not just one little Island country... but 56 other countries... so in essence the greatest power in the world at one point!
Perfectly stated @hollydolly . So was the Roman Empire, so were the Vikings.
I think the answer to the OP question is a legitimate one. Any country must move forward or get lost in the shuffle. A country can't rest on its laurels. It must continue to strive to make inroads to be powerful. Sadly, since the 60s, the UK has floundered. No real inroads to climate change, perfecting its army and updating military strategy, finding ways to feed the country, sustain oil reserves, and most importantly interact with other countries, contributing to the future safety of all nations. Royalty looks pretty, but other than the pomp and circumstance of entertainment, they haven't contributed.

It is time they show us the face they had70 years ago (and in ancient history) for the world.

That is slowly coming to an end. A poll here in Canada shows over 50% of Canadians would like to leave the commonwealth. It will be a domino effect eventually till there is only Britain to support itself.

You're spot on Timewise, I think it's the pageantry, the gold coaches, the crowns, the jewels, everyone dressed to the nines, even the servants.

I remember a time, long ago ... when America was in love with this royal couple.
Their love story, and everything they did, was all over our news and magazines.

I think the Press has something to do with it. UK papers won't leave them alone and being written in English, Americans are able to read about UK news therefore getting a whole lot of coverage on the royals. We got used to it and began to enjoy the tid bits and gossip.
