People thought Jack Benny was gay because of his swaying walk and limp-wristed gestures, but I also heard that he was quite a ladies' man.

I always thought that sort of sideways sashay was a theatrical or stage technique.

I’ve noticed that Broderick Crawford, William Talman and others had a similar style of walking in various movies and television programs.

Most Hollywood types have some kind of gimmick they employ, that the Public will remember and identify them with. I'm sure John Wayne's oddball walk was to create the image of him riding a lot of horses...and such.
