Why should God(s) help us if we don't help ourselves and others?

Maybe, in retrospect, I shouldn't have used the reference to "God(s)" in the thread heading. Perhaps "clergy" would be less incendiary. It just seemed to lead to personal sniping in places, not an open discussion or way to express opinion on the topic of congregations not congregating during this coronavirus pandemic (whether they agree with mine or not.) Live and learn.
Hopefully you didn't take offense at my statement, I meant none. I agree it would be nice to have spiritual conversations without them getting derailed, but you'd most likely have to have a different sub-category for each religion/belief system.

This went off-topic, so please see original post - BUT, this is important to me, so.....
Yup. In Ohio, we have Goddard's Law - a weatherman and lifelong supporter of animal rights: "Goddard's Law, which makes certain acts of animal cruelty felony crimes, passed the Ohio legislature late Wednesday night with broad bipartisan support. ... House Bill 60 makes knowingly causing physical harm to a companion animal a fifth-degree felony, punishable by six months to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine. "
I would never have thought a snake was a companion animal.

The pat answer is

God works in mysterious ways.

Maybe a pandemic is a little less drastic than flooding the earth. That benevolent caring God gave us all free will. With that free will unlike God killing masses has been reduced to wars that haven't done as good a job.
Hmm, been thinking about this-if only I had a bible, lol. I think the God that flooded the earth was the God of the Old Testament. God the Father, of JC, promised not to do that again.

Most of the dinosaurs were killed off by the ice age, a natural disaster as I understand it. This virus, a natural disaster, in another time period might be a natural correction to the overpopulation of the earth. But whatever, we can deal with it. Life goes on.

Response to GardenLover: No offense taken personally. If I had to put in a different sub-category for each religion/belief system (as someone who looks at comparative religion studies) I might die of old age before the posts got up. Really didn't mean my topic to address anything but the direct defiance of state orders and/or recommendations from health departments during the pandemic. I expressed my personal opinion. I was open to hearing differing opinions from different places, not just from those that share mine. It just seemed to get 'personal' between some members in places. Other places gave good feedback and differing perspectives that were relevant. As I have said, I am new to social media - still learning - and will try hard not to open any more 'cans of worms.' (Seeking to keep it a 'friendly' community.)

There is truth in your words.

It's a hard line to walk, attempting to speak of the spiritual in a friendly manner, among so many different belief systems and even among those who profess no belief. I enjoy such intercourse (Get your minds out of the gutter - I mean communication or dealings between individuals or groups.) so I welcome anyone with interest in this area to start a private conversation with me in this regard. It could be in public as well, but past experience has shown this method of communication doesn't render the same depth of sharing. Be well and live peacefully among others as much as it's possible.

BTW way add a @ in front of the name ( @Empty ) if you want them to be aware of your reply when not quoting the person's original post.

I pretty much enjoy talking about anything, but open discussions about spiritual matters-I am all in 😄.

Still, never meant this to be a spiritual topic - but I do like to discuss such things - probably won't do it here (aforementioned can of worms avoidance!)
Thanks for the tip - sometimes my fingers miss the keys and the quote doesn't show - took me three edit tries to fix one that I botched up this week!

Religion and politics generate a variety of input/opinions.

If you wanted to limit the post to only those that believe that a supernatural being billions of years old could help during an event like the spread of a natural evolution of an impact on humans. The title might have been

For those that believe there is a God(s) that can help those that have blind faith. What help would that be?

Faith can be comforting but the end result is the same. We all live we all die, what our lives are like between those two points can be good or miserable. Does God get credit for only good or or in times like this be blamed for not showing up to erase the misery the world is suffering now?

Just to clarify: My thread only stated:

No matter your beliefs or lack thereof, I'm sickened by religious leaders who continue to defy stay-at-home orders, encouraging people to gather under the premise/promise that they will have divine protection. (Posted by Em)
