Very interesting, thanks for posting. I watched it all. I doubt I'd be able to get a copy of the book at a library around here. I'd like to read it first hand.

In my life I've known a couple of people who would have made researching some of personally researching some things I have questions about easier, but sadly they're no longer with us.

I have never been a person who took the Bible as the literal and infallible word of God starting when I was 4 years old. On that occasion I was in day care , in a group of 25 or so kids, and introduced to the game of telephone. We all sat in a circle and one of the teachers whispered something into on kid's ear and it made its way around and lo and behold it was something completely different by the time the last one heard it. I had already been exposed to the idea that the Bible had been translated from other languages and of the possibilities of translational differences.

Anyone remember Sunrise Semester? If I got up extra early and couldn't get back to sleep it was the only thing on tv at that time. I remember watching what I think was a Catholic Priest talking about the translation of the word virgin as it pertained to the Virgin Mary. The possibility the word virgin had been used not to mean chaste, but rather as in pure of virtue. His example was virgin like virgin wool.

Also around this time in my life I was informed that Santa Claus wasn't real. I've never asked anyone else, but I felt betrayed by the adults around me who where supposed to protect and care for me. I was exposed to some important realities already, ones that I was too young to truly comprehend, but they did form my perspective on things.

To me it rings of the truth of the history. The history has always interested me more than the philosophy . I do know a very few people who really walk the walk, and they are truly worth admiration.
 
I'll try watching, I do find the whole history of Christianity interesting.

I have never believed that the Roman's "created" Jesus, but I do believe they controlled and rewrote things to better suit their needs. At a minimum the Romans used the Council of Nicaea (325 AD, organized by Constantine) to pick and choose the gospels that got included in our modern Bible. I am sure their influence was more than just that.

Why even go to the trouble of making a movie about that? It has the tone of whistling while walking through a graveyard. You know there are no ghosts, but still, just to be safe make a little noise so you don't crap your pants should someone call your name.
 
I believe Jesus was the greatest MAN in history, not god at all. I look up to Jesus as showing us all how to die without complaining and blaming others. At 86 I don't have long to go but I will to follows Jesus in my own path to non-existence.
 
I watched the video last night, and it's definitely interesting. The basic premise was that Romans created Christianity in an effort to pacify the Jews. Jews and Romans were arch enemies back then. Jews, as described in the Jewish Bible, were warriors and a big pain in the butt for Romans, so it's logical they might create the concept of a non-violent, turn-the-other-cheek religion to divide the Jewish people and make them easier to conquer.

I'm not sure about some of the author's reasoning, though. There were a few things in the video that weren't accurate, like defining a generation as 40 years to rationalize one of his theories. A generation today is 30 years and back then, life expectancy was much lower, and people started families at a younger age, so a generation would have been less than 30... maybe even 20.

I'm going to look into some other authors who wrote about this topic and will report back.

Jesus might not have ever existed. The term 'jesus' means savior and 'christ' means messiah, so it's highly unlikely there would have been anybody by that name 2000 years ago.

It's funny, some people these days actually name their sons Jesus. Guess they have high expectations! :ROFLMAO:

I think in literature, Jesus died when he was around 30 years old, so we're coming up on the 2000 year anniversary of his death. Is that going to be a big event? You'd think it would be for true believers.
 
They kept it a secret a good while didn't they, and all the persecutions carried out upon early Christians, whodda thought of such a bluff hey, "quite a cover story"!
Codswallop I'd suggest, though there may be cause to consider why the Roman world took up the Christian faith eventually, with a certain cynicism(?). :)

But

If one wishes to dig a bit into the Bible, it's all there
The prophecies of the books of Daniel, and The Revelation leave little doubt

Matthew 24 is rather pertinent in relation to today's society

And;

Job 38:35, ESV: "Can you send forth lightnings, that they may go and say to you, 'Here we are'?"

Heh, Maxwell 'discovered' this in the mid 1800s, over three thousand years later

and now......we talk to each other around the world like we were in the same room


But

one studies what one is driven to


Guess it all depends on what you're looking for
 
I'm totally fulfilled to get my information from the source...the Bible. I'm not close minded to those who question and are looking for answers and so I watched a few minutes of your video post but it didn't inspire me to continue.

There are a lot of different opinions floating around in the world but the Bible is still around after all these years for a reason...a multitude of reasons.

No matter what you believe I think it is hard to deny that Jesus was one of, if not the most, influential person in our history. And I believe his influence has been much more positive than not.

Between the Christians and Moslems the majority of the people on Earth belong to religions that believe in Jesus. A lot of Christians don't know that Moslems also believe in Jesus, but in a different way, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_in_Islam. Jesus is also important in the Baha'i faith and other smaller religions. One of my favorites is the small group of Japanese who believe that Jesus escaped the crucifixion, made his way to Japan and died a rice farmer. So true! I've been saying this for many decades. When people quote the NT to me, I ask who they're quoting. Paul? Not interested.
